Cesar Pascual Orozco Extradited from Mexico for 2009 Garland Murder Case

Cesar Pascual Orozco, a murder suspect in a 2009 fatal shooting in Garland, Texas, has been extradited from Mexico to the United States, according to a Friday news release from the FBI Dallas Field Office. Orozco is now in custody at the Dallas County Jail, facing a murder charge connected to the killing of 26-year-old Joe Castillo.

Officials confirmed that Orozco was handed over to the Garland Police Department and booked into jail on August 30, 2025. His bail has been set at $500,000, according to online jail records.

Suspect Fled to Mexico After 2009 Shooting 

The case dates back to March 14, 2009, when Garland police officers responded to the 700 block of Ford Street around 1 p.m.

They found Joe Castillo dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to witnesses, Orozco, then 24 years old, had gone to the residence to drop off his child with his ex-wife. At the same time, Castillo was working on a car parked partially in the driveway and street.

Officials said Orozco exchanged a few words with Castillo before pulling out a firearm, firing multiple rounds, and fleeing the scene.

Indictment and Flight to Mexico

Orozco was later indicted by a Dallas County grand jury. And was charged with intentionally causing Castillo’s death with a firearm. During their investigation, Garland police determined that Orozco had fled to Mexico, where he remained a fugitive for more than a decade.
