NASA has officially confirmed the crew for its upcoming SpaceX Crew-12 mission, a flight that will send four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) no earlier than February 15, 2026. The mission continues a well-established international partnership that has quietly sustained life and work aboard the station for more than two decades, combining American, European, and Russian crew members on a single flight.

According to NASA, the Crew-12 mission will include two U.S. astronauts, one European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut, and one Russian cosmonaut. The crew will launch aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, reinforcing the agency’s reliance on commercial partners to handle transportation to low Earth orbit while NASA focuses on deeper space ambitions.

A Veteran Commander and Three Distinct Career Paths

Commanding the mission is NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, who is returning to orbit for her second long-duration stay. Meir previously spent more than six months aboard the ISS and made history in 2019 when she participated in the first all-women spacewalk alongside astronaut Christina Koch.

“Crew-12 puts her back in orbit, this time in charge,” NASA noted, highlighting Meir’s extensive experience not only in space but also in post-flight roles supporting NASA’s commercial crew and human landing system programs. Her return reflects a growing emphasis on leadership continuity as ISS missions become increasingly routine but no less demanding.

Joining Meir as pilot is Jack Hathaway, who will be making his first trip to space. Selected by NASA in 2021, Hathaway brings a military aviation background, having flown thousands of hours for the U.S. Navy across dozens of aircraft, including carrier-based operations.

“This mission will be his first experience off the planet,” NASA said, marking a significant transition from sea-based aviation to orbital flight.

International Astronauts Join the SpaceX Crew-12 Flight

The mission also includes two international crew members flying under long-standing ISS agreements. Sophie Adenot will represent the European Space Agency, also on her first spaceflight. Before joining ESA, Adenot worked as an engineer and helicopter pilot, flying search-and-rescue missions and later serving as an experimental test pilot.

Russian cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev rounds out the crew, bringing recent ISS experience. Fedyaev previously flew on SpaceX Crew-6 in 2023, spending 186 days in orbit as a flight engineer.

Once on board, the four astronauts will integrate into the ISS’s established routine of maintenance, scientific research, and daily operations. “There’s no ceremony to that part,” the agency emphasized, noting that the station has been continuously occupied for more than 25 years.
