Self-proclaimed misogynist influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, traveled to Florida on a private jet Thursday after Romania lifted travel restrictions on them.

The two brothers have been charged with human trafficking in Romania and have faced similar allegations in multiple countries.

Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, confirmed their arrival in the U.S. by posting on X: “Romania rightly decided it didn’t have the evidence needed to hold them any longer.”

Legal Troubles  

Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Romania in December 2022, along with two women, on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group. In 2024, they were formally indicted in Romania on those charges.

In addition to the Romanian case, Andrew Tate is also accused of sexual aggression in England between 2012 and 2015. He and his brother deny all allegations against them. Their reported crimes are also alleged to have taken place in the U.S.

Andrew Tate Romanian Court Decisions 

In January 2023, Andrew Tate appeared in a Bucharest court to appeal his detention but was denied. However, in March 2023, he won an appeal that allowed him to be placed under house arrest instead of being jailed.

By January 2024, he regained access to his assets after the court overturned a decision that had previously seized his luxury cars, designer watches, and properties.

The brothers’ departure from Romania followed a Financial Times report that Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu had a conversation with a Trump administration official during the Munich Security Conference in mid-February.

U.S. Denies Intervention

When questioned about any involvement in the Tate brothers’ release, former President Donald Trump stated, “I know nothing about that.” Similarly, White House officials denied any direct U.S. government role in their travel to Florida, according to CNN.

A Reuters source claimed that Washington had not pressured Romania to drop the charges against the Tate brothers but acknowledged that U.S. officials had urged Romania to return their passports and allow them to leave the country.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry also denied U.S. intervention, stating that Romania’s judiciary was solely responsible for the decision to lift the travel restrictions.

Florida Officials Respond 

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis publicly expressed his disapproval of the Tates’ presence in the state. “I don’t know how it came to this,” he told reporters. “We were not involved.” He also added that the brothers “were not welcome” in Florida.

The brothers’ arrival coincided with a hearing for a defamation lawsuit they filed in Florida in 2023 against a woman who accused them of imprisoning her in Romania. The brothers claim that much of their legal problems are due to her claims.

They are seeking at least $5 million in damages and, during a hearing in West Palm Beach on Thursday, requested a temporary restraining order against the woman, claiming they feared “imminent harm” from her, according to the Associated Press.

Andrew Tate, 38, rose to fame as a former kickboxing champion and reality TV personality before transitioning into an online influencer. He has promoted himself as a self-help guru for men, offering guidance on wealth, relationships, and masculinity.

He has been banned from multiple social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, due to what these companies describe as “hateful ideology.”

His X account, banned in 2017 for stating that women should “bear responsibility” for being sexually assaulted, was reinstated in 2022. That account has over 10 million followers.

In 2019, Andrew launched “War Room,” a subscription-based group that claims to offer training in “physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial development” for an $8,000 annual fee. A BBC investigation later found that discussions in the group included techniques for grooming women into sex work.

In 2022, he also founded “Hustlers University,” an online platform promising financial freedom strategies for a $49 monthly subscription. The program was later rebranded as “The Real World.”

Ongoing Legal Battle  

The Tate brothers claim they moved to Romania in 2017 because they believed they would have more freedom there. In a now-deleted 2022 podcast interview, Andrew stated that he preferred Eastern Europe “because corruption is far more accessible.”

“I find it offensive that a police officer in England will stop me and refuse to take a bribe,” he said.

Despite their return to the U.S., their legal troubles remain unresolved. If convicted in Romania, they face significant prison time: three to ten years for human trafficking and five to ten years for rape.

While their future remains uncertain, their return to Florida has reignited debates over their controversial influence and the legal battles they continue to face.
