Later this week, the nation will get to witness Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom debate one another. Thursday's debate will take place in Alpharetta, Georgia. It will also happen in the aftermath of the two governors consistently taking pot shots at one another for over a year.

While DeSantis officially declared his candidacy for president earlier this year, Newsom has not. In fact, the California governor remains adamant that he holds no intentions of seeking the White House in 2024.

However, some people believe this may change if Democrats decide Biden doesn't have what it takes to pull off a 2024 win for the party.

A bellwether for 2024?

DeSantis and Newsom are, in many ways, ideal foils to one another. DeSantis, a Republican, and Newsom, a Democrat, both lead high-profile states. Both governors also firmly believe in policies that the other side views as failures.

Some Americans maintain the DeSantis v. Newsom debate should mirror the general election landscape of 2024. Across the political spectrum, many people have sounded the alarm, stating this country needs to see the next generation of leaders take over politics.

A scenario that sees DeSantis winning the Republican nomination and Newsom winning the Democratic nomination would present just that. Furthermore, it would give the country a chance to pick between two young candidates, with each one standing by very different policies and visions for the nation.

Come Thursday night, folks nationwide will be eagerly tuning in to see the two governors face off against one another at last. Moderating the debate will be Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Months ago, Hannity brought forth the prospect of the leaders debating one another. Hannity branded such a debate as an opportunity for Americans to get a look at two serious officials on opposing sides of the aisle.

Likewise, the Fox News host stated that a DeSantis v. Newsom debate would bring a greater matter into question, that being whether red states or blue states have adopted the best policy approaches.

The DeSantis campaign, meanwhile, is promoting the upcoming debate as one showcasing revival vs. decline.
