Marvel fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters in May 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027.

With high expectations surrounding these films, speculation is rampant about the roles of Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel in shaping the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Captain Marvel's solo outing in 2019 was a massive success, grossing $1.1 billion worldwide. However, the sequel, The Marvels, failed to replicate that triumph.

Despite bringing back Carol Danvers and introducing a team-up with WandaVision’s Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan, the film only managed $206 million globally, making it one of Marvel Studios' biggest box office disappointments.

Impact on Avengers: Doomsday

The conclusion of The Marvels left audiences with major implications for the future. Monica Rambeau finds herself stranded in an alternate reality, encountering a Variant of her mother, now known as the mutant hero Photon, alongside the X-Men’s Beast.

This ending hints at a crucial role for Monica and the X-Men in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Captain Marvel’s Dangerous Mission

According to The Cosmic Circus, "[Captain Marvel is] currently studying how Kamala’s bangle aka the Kree Quantum Bands work, as well as studying the jump point systems to see how she is able to recreate the events from The Marvels that could allow her to bring back Monica from wherever she went. Problem is, if she does that, she’ll be dooming her universe to a terrible fate."

Monica and Kamala’s Roles in Avengers: Doomsday

The same report suggests, "From what I’ve been told, we can expect both of them to return and Monica Rambeau’s role will be a tad more important to the story for this upcoming film, comparable to the role of the Vision in Avengers: Infinity War."

Captain Marvel’s actions could trigger an incursion or facilitate a crossover between Earth-616’s heroes and Earth-10005’s X-Men, including fan-favorites Deadpool and Wolverine.

Meanwhile, leaked concept art for the next Avengers films features Ms. Marvel alongside Young Avengers/Champions members like Hawkeye, Cassie Lang, Wiccan, and Speed.

Casting Speculations

It remains uncertain when Marvel Studios will officially reveal the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, but speculation points to Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani reprising their roles.

Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum hinted at Ms. Marvel’s significant future in the MCU, stating, "I love Iman. She’s incredible. I love that character. I will tell you that she’s certainly a big part of the MCU to me. Ms. Marvel is a really important show to us, and without going into great detail, because I don’t want to spoil anything, she is top of mind. So, it’s going to be exciting to see where she pops up next."
