At a National Association of Counties Legislative Conference on Tuesday, President Joe Biden talked about the time he left a dead dog on a Republican’s doorstep. He was remembering his time serving on the New Castle County Council when he bragged about the event.

Biden claims he represented a working-class district, with 'one very wealthy neighborhood' within its confines.  And he dropped the dead dog on a wealthy Republican porch.

'And I got a call one night, a woman said to me - obviously not of the same persuasion as I was political - call me and say, "there's a dead dog on my lawn,"' Biden claimed.

'And I said, "yes ma'am, did you call the county?" And she said, "yes, they're not here." And I said, "well, I'll get 'em in the morning,"' he recalled. 

The woman wouldn't accept that answer.  "I want it removed now, I pay your salary," she said, according to the president. 

'So, I went over. I picked it up. She said I want it out of my front yard. I put it on her doorstep,' he added.

There was a lot of laughter in the crowd. And the president claims, 'I've gotten much better since then.'

Biden Background

Biden served on the county council for Delaware's most populous county, New Castle County, in 1970. He was in his late twenties at the time.

Two years later he made a successful run for the U.S. Senate representing Delaware. And he remained in the Senate from 1973–2009.

He also told the crowd that, 'I used to give out my phone number, can't do that anymore. They don't even allow me to have a phone anymore.'

He was vice-president from 2009-2017.

In 2020, he was elected President of the United States at the age of 79.

The rest of Biden’s speech was his boilerplate.  'I'm going to work like the devil to bring gas prices down,' he promised.

And he continued with 'We're going to keep working to strengthen the supply chain and bring the cost of every good down, particularly food and automobiles.'

But Biden also says that "Build Back Better" would solve all the problems. The spending package was killed in the Senate. Because moderate Sen. Joe Manchin from West Virginia said he would vote no.

'Look, families are getting clobbered by the cost of everyday things,' he said. 'I know that gas and food prices are up, we're working to bring them down.' 

Biden says his own family is being hit hard by inflation. And he felt it when gas prices ticked up. 

'I understand,' the president claimed.  'These are necessities. But they're not the totality of what a family needs,' he argued.

 'So, while we work on supply chains, and we work on bringing down the cost of the things we're talking about that have gone up so high. We still have other ways we can reduce the burden on working class families,' the president still believes that Build Back Better is the only way to solve the problems.
