A Body Found Floating in a pond at a quiet New York City park has sparked an active police investigation after a woman was discovered in the water at Bowne Park in Flushing, Queens.

Authorities responded to the unsettling scene on Sunday evening after a witness reported seeing the decomposing body floating near one of the park's fountains. Officials have not yet identified the woman, and the cause of death also remains under investigation.

Body Found Floating was a Woman Discovered in Bowne Park Pond

According to the New York Police Department, officers were called to Bowne Park shortly before 6 p.m. A bystander reported seeing what appeared to be a body in the kettle pond. When officers arrived, they located the body of a woman floating near the fountain in the middle of the pond.

Emergency responders carefully recovered the woman's remains from the water and placed the body on the grass while police secured the area. Witnesses at the park watched as investigators began documenting the scene.

The woman's body was largely covered with a white tarp after being removed from the pond. Authorities confirmed that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the woman's identity as well as the official cause and manner of death. At this time, investigators have not announced whether foul play is suspected.

Residents Shocked by Discovery of Body Found Floating

The discovery stunned neighborhood residents who describe Bowne Park as one of the quieter and safer green spaces in Queens.

One local resident, who had arrived for a routine evening dog walk, said the incident was deeply unsettling because the park is generally considered a peaceful place for families and neighbors.

Just one day before the discovery, Bowne Park had hosted community events, including a neighborhood clean-up and a silent disco gathering, making the grim discovery even more surprising for regular visitors.

Medical Examiner to Determine Cause of Death

Investigators have not yet released the woman's name or age. Officials have not yet disclosed how long the body may have been in the water.

The New York City Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to establish the cause of death. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses. They are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have asked anyone with information related to the Bowne Park investigation to contact the NYPD investigators.

Body Found Floating in Other New York City Waterways

Unfortunately, the recovery of bodies from New York City's rivers, ponds, and surrounding waterways is not uncommon.

Earlier this year, authorities launched an investigation after a man's body was found in the East River near Brooklyn Bridge Park following a 911 call reporting a person in the water.

Emergency crews, including FDNY marine units, recovered the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity and the circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately released, and investigators also awaited autopsy results from the medical examiner.

Officials stress that each case is investigated individually, and while many water recoveries ultimately prove to be accidental or due to natural causes, detectives continue examining all available evidence until the circumstances are fully understood.
