WASHINGTON (AP) — In a move that defies political conventions, President Joe Biden has unveiled a lineup of five district judge nominees for the states of Florida and South Carolina. These states are known for their Republican senators, making this announcement all the more captivating.

The Nominees: A Diverse Selection

The distinguished nominees include Magistrate Judge Jacquelyn D. Austin, who is set to represent the District of South Carolina. Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Becerra and Magistrate Judge Melissa Damian will serve the Southern District of Florida. David S. Leibowitz, corporate counsel for Braman Management Association, will become a district judge for the Southern District of Florida. Finally, Magistrate Judge Julie S. Sneed will serve the Middle District of Florida.

A Diverse Array of Experience

Judge Austin has been serving the District of South Carolina since 2011. Before donning the judicial robe, she was an associate and partner at Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice PLLC. Furthermore, she brings her wealth of experience as an associate at Hardaway Law Firm, according to the White House’s announcement. Her journey includes a stint as a clerk for Judge Matthew J. Perry Jr. on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina. She holds a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
