Brewers win World Series: Milwaukee players celebrate their first championship after defeating Tampa Bay in Game 5.

Key Takeaways

  • Milwaukee defeated Tampa Bay 4-1 in Game 5, securing the franchise’s first World Series championship and the city’s first since 1957.
  • Jacob Misiorowski pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, while rookie Cooper Pratt drove in two runs in the clincher.
  • William Contreras earned World Series MVP honors, batting .381 with four RBIs.
  • The Brewers followed a 103-win regular season with an 11-2 postseason, completing a dominant championship run.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series championship Wednesday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5. The victory at Tropicana Field secured the series four games to one and brought Milwaukee its first major league baseball title since the 1957 Braves.

For generations of Brewers fans, the final out ended a wait that stretched back to the franchise’s arrival in Milwaukee in 1970. The championship came 44 years after the Brewers’ only previous World Series appearance. This time, Milwaukee finished the job.

“It’s the best feeling ever,” captain Christian Yelich said, according to The Associated Press’s account of the clinching victory. “All of our fans are here. I know the city’s waited a long, long time for this.”

Misiorowski gives Milwaukee the start it needed

Jacob Misiorowski held Tampa Bay scoreless over 5 2/3 innings, allowing two hits before a right calf cramp forced him out. The Brewers steadily built a lead behind him. Cooper Pratt’s second-inning RBI single put Milwaukee ahead, and David Hamilton’s RBI single extended the advantage in the fifth.

William Contreras doubled home another run in the sixth. Pratt followed with a sacrifice fly, giving the Brewers a 4-0 cushion. Tampa Bay scored in the ninth, but Trevor Megill secured the final out to complete the 4-1 victory over the Rays.

The finish came one night after Milwaukee lost a chance to sweep. The Brewers fell 4-3 in 12 innings in Game 4 after entering the bottom of the final inning with a lead. On Wednesday, their pitching held and their offense supplied enough separation to prevent another late reversal.

Contreras earns World Series MVP honors

Contreras won the World Series MVP award for his work at the plate and behind it. He batted .381 with four RBIs and an .864 OPS across the five games. His sixth-inning double in the clincher helped Milwaukee pull away.

The catcher also threw out four Rays attempting to steal, including two in Game 1. That defensive contribution limited a central part of Tampa Bay’s offense. Contreras became the first catcher to win the award since Kansas City’s Salvador Perez in 2015.

A dominant run delivers the Brewers’ first World Series

Milwaukee entered October after leading the majors with 103 regular-season victories. The Brewers eliminated San Diego in the Division Series and swept Los Angeles in the National League Championship Series. They then lost only once against Tampa Bay.

The Brewers finished the postseason 11-2, joining a short list of champions with at least 11 playoff wins and no more than two losses. Their pitching never allowed more than four runs in a game throughout the run. The bullpen posted a 1.38 ERA, with Aaron Ashby contributing 18 scoreless innings.

Pratt also supplied a historic offensive performance. The rookie recorded hits in six consecutive World Series at-bats, setting a rookie record for the event. His two RBIs in Game 5 helped turn that individual achievement into a championship.

Milwaukee’s long wait finally ends

The franchise began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 before moving to Milwaukee the following year. Its 1982 team reached the World Series as the American League champion but lost to St. Louis in seven games. The 2026 championship arrived in the franchise’s 58th season.

The distinction between the team’s history and the city’s history matters. Milwaukee previously celebrated a World Series title with the Braves in 1957, before that franchise moved to Atlanta for the 1966 season. Wednesday’s victory gave the Brewers their own championship chapter.

Back home, fans celebrated at an American Family Field watch party. Supporters also gathered around the statue of Bob Uecker, the longtime Brewers broadcaster who died in 2025. The celebration connected the current team’s achievement with the people who had carried the franchise through its earlier years.

Brewers championship parade set for Friday

Milwaukee will celebrate with a championship parade and rally Friday, Oct. 30. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Central at North Fourth Street and West Wisconsin Avenue. It will proceed through downtown and conclude at Henry Maier Festival Park.

According to the team’s championship celebration announcement, the festival grounds open at 8 a.m., with free admission until capacity is reached. A separate program inside the American Family Insurance Amphitheater requires tickets. Public ticket sales begin Thursday at 2 p.m. Central, with net proceeds benefiting the Brewers Community Foundation.

For Milwaukee, the celebration will bring the championship home after the players clinched it in Florida. The city waited decades for another title. The Brewers now have their first.
