Apple is dramatically expanding its investment in American semiconductor manufacturing through a major Broadcom Deal worth more than $30 billion. The agreement will reinforce Apple's long-term commitment to U.S.-based production while securing critical wireless components for future generations of iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other devices.

The multiyear agreement, announced this week, extends through 2031 and represents one of Apple's largest supplier commitments ever.

The deal also supports the company's broader pledge to invest $600 billion in the United States over four years while strengthening domestic manufacturing amid continued efforts by the Trump administration to expand the nation's semiconductor industry.

Apple and Broadcom Deal Expands Long-Standing Partnership

Apple has worked with Broadcom for years to develop specialized chips that provide wireless connectivity across its product lineup.

Under the new agreement, Apple will purchase more than $30 billion worth of custom semiconductor components while Broadcom commits $1.5 billion to expand and modernize its manufacturing facility in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The expanded factory is expected to produce at least 15 billion chips during the life of the agreement, supporting hundreds of American jobs and increasing the domestic production of advanced semiconductor technology.

Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook said the components produced in Colorado are vital to delivering the wireless performance customers expect from Apple products.

"The cutting-edge components built in Fort Collins are essential to delivering the incredible performance and connectivity our customers expect," Cook said in a statement, while also thanking President Donald Trump and his administration for supporting U.S. manufacturing initiatives.

What Is Broadcom?

Broadcom is one of the world's largest semiconductor companies and a leading supplier of chips used in smartphones, networking equipment, cloud computing, broadband systems, enterprise storage, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and industrial electronics.

The California-based technology giant designs and develops semiconductors as well as enterprise software used by some of the world's largest corporations.

Its customers include major cloud providers, telecommunications companies, data centers, networking firms, and consumer electronics manufacturers.

Broadcom's semiconductor business accounts for roughly 58% of its revenue. Infrastructure software, including enterprise virtualization, cybersecurity, and cloud management products generates the remaining 42%.

The company has experienced explosive growth during the AI boom. It surpassed a $1 trillion market capitalization in late 2024 and exceeded a $2 trillion valuation in 2026. This makes it one of the most valuable technology companies in history.

Its success has been fueled by a surging demand for custom AI chips, networking processors, and high-speed data center equipment.

Advanced Chips Designed for Apple in the Broadcom Deal

The agreement centers on advanced FBAR (Film Bulk Acoustic Resonator) filters, sophisticated radio-frequency components that help Apple devices send and receive wireless signals.

The Broadcom deal is designed to speed production and innovate technology.

These chips are essential for:

  • Cellular communications
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Bluetooth performance
  • Signal filtering
  • Faster wireless data transmission
  • Reduced interference between radio frequencies

Apple and Broadcom have reportedly been jointly developing these customized wireless technologies since at least 2023.

Unlike Apple's A-series and M-series processors—which power iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers—these specialized radio-frequency chips handle communications with wireless networks. They allow devices to maintain fast, reliable connections while minimizing signal interference and improving battery efficiency.

Broadcom Deal: Strategic Investment in U.S. Manufacturing

The agreement represents Apple's largest commitment under its American Manufacturing Program, which seeks to expand semiconductor production inside the United States.

Broadcom's Colorado expansion will include new manufacturing equipment and upgraded production facilities capable of building cutting-edge wireless connectivity components.

The initiative also aligns with federal efforts to reduce dependence on overseas semiconductor manufacturing and strengthen America's technology supply chain.

Apple has steadily increased its domestic investments in recent years. In August 2025, the company raised its U.S. investment commitment to $600 billion over four years—an increase of $100 billion over its earlier pledge.

Investors Welcome the Announcement

Financial markets reacted positively to news of the agreement.

Broadcom shares climbed more than 4% following the announcement, reflecting investor confidence that the long-term contract secures one of the company's largest customers for years to come.

Apple shares were little changed after the announcement, suggesting investors largely viewed the agreement as a continuation of the company's existing supplier strategy rather than a major shift in spending.

Agreement Strengthens the Apple Supply Chain

The new agreement also provides Apple with greater supply-chain stability at a time when semiconductor demand remains elevated due to artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and growing consumer electronics markets.

Although Apple increasingly designs many of its own processors—including the M-series chips for Macs and A-series chips for iPhones—it continues to rely on specialized suppliers like Broadcom for critical communications hardware that requires decades of engineering expertise.

The partnership ensures Apple will continue receiving customized wireless components specifically designed for its hardware ecosystem while helping Broadcom maintain its position as one of Apple's most important technology suppliers through the end of the decade.
