Few pairings feel as inevitable as a kids’ meal and a collectible. Hello Kitty is making her way to Burger King, and the chain is wrapping the Burger King Hello Kitty meal in the kind of mystery that keeps families coming back for one more box.

What Burger King Announced

On Oct. 19, Burger King announced a new Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Kids’ Meal, which comes with one of six toys sealed inside a mystery blind box. The meal is available starting Tuesday, Oct. 20, at participating restaurants while supplies last, according to a news release.

The Six Toys

Six figures are up for grabs:

• Hello Kitty
• My Melody
• Kuromi
• Cinnamoroll
• Kerpooi
• A golden-colored Hello Kitty, a specialty toy that includes all five other figurines

What Comes in the Box

Besides the blind box, the meal includes a 4- or 6-piece order of chicken nuggets, a hamburger or a cheeseburger; fries or applesauce; a kid’s drink; and an exclusive Hello Kitty crown.

What It Costs

Burger King told USA TODAY on Oct. 20 that the price varies by entree:

• Cheeseburger King Jr. Meal: $5.05
• Hamburger King Jr. Meal: $4.53
• 4-piece chicken nuggets King Jr. Meal: $5.05
• 6-piece chicken nuggets King Jr. Meal: $6.03

A Golden Prize for One Day Only

To celebrate the launch, Burger King is hosting a one-day Golden Claw Machine on Oct. 23 at its restaurant at 10014 Paramount Boulevard in Downey, California. The machine holds one 14K gold-plated Hello Kitty figurine, and customers can play without making a purchase, according to a news release. It will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.

Part of a Growing Hello Kitty Wave

The collaboration arrives a few months after McDonald’s Hello Kitty-Godzilla Happy Meal, which launched in August with its own mystery blind box toys blending Hello Kitty characters and monsters from the Godzilla franchise. Sonic and Starbucks have also released limited-edition Hello Kitty merchandise over the past year.

With six toys, one golden prize and a limited supply, Burger King is betting that the thrill of not knowing what’s inside the box will do the selling.
