A sweeping financial resolution has moved forward after a judge granted final approval to the Capital One $425M settlement approval, closing a closely watched lawsuit over allegedly unequal interest rates tied to the bank’s savings products and setting the stage for millions in customer payouts.

Judge Approves Landmark Settlement Over Savings Account Claims

A federal court has approved a $425 million settlement involving Capital One, resolving claims that the bank paid lower interest rates to holders of older savings accounts while offering higher returns on a newer, nearly identical product.

The case centers on two accounts: the older 360 Savings account and the newer 360 Performance Savings account, introduced in 2019 with significantly higher interest rates.

The lawsuit alleged that customers holding 360 Savings accounts were not clearly informed that a higher-yield option existed or that their accounts were no longer competitive. Capital One has denied any wrongdoing throughout the proceedings.

Who Is Eligible for Payment?

Under the settlement terms, eligible customers include anyone who held a 360 Savings account between Sept. 18, 2019, and June 16, 2025, including joint and co-account holders.

According to settlement administrators, eligible consumers do not need to submit a claim to receive compensation, simplifying the payout process.

How Payments Will Be Distributed

Customers who did not opt for electronic payment by the March 30 deadline will receive a physical check in the mail if their payout exceeds $5. Those who selected electronic delivery—or those with smaller eligible amounts—will receive payments accordingly, with special rules applying to balances under $5.

The final payout for each customer will be calculated based on the estimated additional interest they would have earned had their account received the higher rate offered by the 360 Performance Savings product.

After calculating individual losses, the total settlement fund will be reduced by attorney fees and administrative costs before remaining funds are distributed among eligible account holders.

When Money Will Arrive

With court approval granted on April 20 and no appeals pending, payments are expected to be issued around July 21, according to settlement information.
