Actor Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, are mourning the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona. The family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, describing Fiona as a loving, smart and creative young girl who loved to dance. They said she was “the light of our lives” and asked for prayers and privacy as they grieve.

The family’s statement did not publicly disclose a cause of death. It concluded with a message encouraging anyone struggling with mental health, or concerned about someone who may be struggling, to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.

Family Shares Heartbreaking Statement

In their statement, Fiona’s family described the teenager as deeply loved by her parents and sisters.

“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents,” the family said, adding that her death has been devastating for the entire family.

Fiona was the middle child of Lowe and Painter. The couple also have daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. Lowe and Painter have been married since August 2010.

News of Fiona’s death came after parents at the school she attended received an email from the principal informing them that a student had died. According to Page Six, the message did not identify the student by name and told parents that counselors were available to provide emotional support to students and staff.

The circumstances surrounding Fiona’s death have not been publicly detailed by her family.

Chad Lowe Remembered his Daughter

Lowe had continued to celebrate his daughter publicly on social media. In November 2025, he marked Fiona’s birthday with a photograph of her smiling while wearing cowboy boots.

“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!!” he wrote in the post, adding an affectionate message encouraging her to keep dancing through life.

The post now provides a poignant reminder of the family memories Lowe shared with his followers.

Lowe had also spoken publicly about his experience raising three daughters. During an appearance on the Still Here Hollywood podcast in August 2024, he described being a father to girls as a privilege and explained that having daughters had influenced the way he viewed issues affecting women.

“I look at the world, really, from their perspective,” he said during the podcast appearance.

He also acknowledged that although the world presented challenges for women, he believed society was becoming increasingly conscious of women’s roles and equality.

Family Faced Loss After the Palisades Fire

Fiona’s death comes after another devastating experience for the Lowe family.

In early 2025, Lowe shared photographs of his daughters visiting what remained of their childhood home after it was destroyed in the Palisades fire in Los Angeles. The images showed the three sisters standing together and embracing.

Lowe praised his daughters for the way they handled the traumatic experience, describing their spirit and resilience as remarkable.

“Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose,” he wrote at the time. “Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege.”

The family had already faced a difficult period as they dealt with the destruction of their home and the emotional impact of losing a place filled with childhood memories.

Remembering Fiona and Supporting Mental Health

Fiona was remembered by her family as a young person who was creative, intelligent, loving and passionate about dance. Her parents' request for privacy underscores the deeply personal nature of their loss.

The family's reference to mental-health resources also puts attention on the importance of seeking support during periods of emotional crisis. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available throughout the United States by calling or texting 988. People can also use the service when they are concerned about someone else and need guidance.

It is important to distinguish that resource information from a determination about Fiona's death: the family has not publicly stated a cause of death in the material available for this report.

Chad Lowe, the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe, has maintained a career spanning film and television. He was previously married to actor Hilary Swank; the couple divorced in 2007 after separating in 2006.

For Lowe and Painter, however, the focus now is on their daughters and on grieving the loss of Fiona, whom they described as a beloved daughter and sister.
