On Dec. 30, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office announced charges against five individuals in connection with the death of One Direction singer Liam Payne.
The singer passed away on Oct. 16 at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires.
Five Charged in Tragic Incident
Among the accused are hotel employees Gilda Martin and Esteban Grassi, as well as Payne’s friend, Roger Nores.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Nores allegedly failed “to fulfill his duties of care, assistance and help” by abandoning Payne despite being aware of the singer’s “multiple addictions.”
Meanwhile, Martin and Grassi are accused of failing to ensure Payne’s safety by allowing him, while intoxicated, to return to his third-floor hotel room. Payne ultimately fell from the room’s balcony.
In addition, the BBC reports that two others, hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz, have been charged with supplying drugs to Payne. Pereyra is suspected of selling cocaine to the singer on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, while Paiz is accused of supplying the drug twice on Oct. 14.
