China has been making headlines lately for its abundance of fresh COVID cases. Multiple reports allege that members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) are suffering from more COVID cases, as are Chinese health officials and Chinese citizens.

There is a degree of irony to this. During the height of COVID, the Chinese government put in place strict measures under the "Zero COVID" policy. These tight restrictions kept citizens in tight quarters and even barred them from leaving their homes in many cases.

In doing this, however, some folks speculate that China missed the opportunity for natural immunity to spread amongst its populace, due to its Zero COVID policy.

Therefore, certain running theories speculate that Chinese citizens remain more vulnerable to the virus and its variants, due to the absence of natural immunity.

As China wrestles with COVID at a substantially higher rate than other countries, multiple nations are now imposing travel restrictions against China's citizens. These travel restrictions are now taking backlash from the Chinese government.

China's opposition to travel restrictions from other nations

The United States, the United Kingdom, and more than 12 other countries have imposed rules that China must follow in order for its citizens to travel internationally.

These rules mandate travelers from China to show a negative COVID test before even boarding a plane to certain countries.

Morocco, on the other hand, has determined that no one from China can travel into its country, negative COVID test or not, due to China's issues with COVID.

Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said limits imposed by other countries need to be based on science. Other state officials in China claimed xenophobia and discrimination are involved in the travel restrictions imposed by other countries.

No changes coming soon

Wang went on record alleging that certain medical professionals deemed travel restrictions against China to be unnecessary. However, each country has a right to make its own decisions when it comes to the rules required for foreigners to enter.

China had no issues implementing its own austere COVID measures when it thought doing so was appropriate. Now, travelers from China will have to abide by the entry requirements of other nations if they wish to gain access to them.
