The SUV, a Dodge Journey, was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it hit the bus, transforming a serene Sunday morning into a scene reminiscent of a disaster movie.

The driver of the SUV was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center in a critical condition.

Also caught in the tumultuous aftermath of the Chicago bus crash, a female passenger from the SUV, now in critical condition, was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Another woman, also an SUV passenger, was taken to U of C, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

In what might be seen as a burst of good news amid the tragic event, the CTA bus driver and 12 passengers were taken to an area hospital, but all were in a condition that could be described as more startled than injured, a perplexing outcome given the severity of the collision.
