A summer evening meant for gathering turned into chaos as an Eisenhower Park shooting claimed the life of a teenager and left two others wounded, sending shockwaves through a Long Island community.

The violence unfolded Wednesday night at Eisenhower Park, where what began as a social gathering quickly spiraled into tragedy.

Barbecue Gathering Turns Deadly

According to the Nassau County Police Department, the shooting occurred around 8:20 p.m. near Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue.

Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said invitations for a barbecue had circulated on social media, drawing individuals believed to be affiliated with gangs.

At some point during the gathering, tensions flared. An argument broke out between two individuals — and in an instant, gunfire erupted, cutting through the night like thunder cracking a calm sky.

Teen Victim Dies, Others Hospitalized

A 15-year-old boy and two other individuals were struck by the bullets. All three were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the teenager was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

The two other victims underwent surgery late Wednesday and were reported to be in stable condition, though their ages remain unknown.

Police Make Arrests, Vow Crackdown

Officers took two individuals into custody at the scene, both of whom were reportedly armed. Details regarding charges and the identities of the suspects have not yet been disclosed.

Commissioner Ryder delivered a firm message following the incident, emphasizing that gang-related violence would not be tolerated.

“We will not tolerate gang activity in this county. We're not going to tolerate what happened tonight. It will be addressed,” he said, adding that gatherings like the one that preceded the shooting would no longer be permitted in the park.

Massive Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

In the aftermath, law enforcement flooded the area. Patrol vehicles lined nearby roads, and a police helicopter circled overhead, casting a watchful eye on the park as investigators worked the scene.
