Two popular dog supplements have been yanked from shelves and online carts amid fears they may carry a hidden salmonella threat, prompting an urgent warning for pet owners.

New York-based Fi launched the recall after concerns surfaced that an ingredient supplied to its manufacturer could be contaminated. The manufacturer has halted production while it digs into the issue—like a sudden brake on a fast-moving supply line.

Affected Products and Distribution

The two items under the cloud are Fi Calming supplement for Dogs 180g, lot number 26118, and Fi 8-in-1 Formula supplement for Dogs 180g, lot number 26159. Both reached customers through direct sales and major online retailers Amazon and Chewy.

Anyone who bought either product should stop using it at once and discard it.

Dual Risk to Pets and People

Salmonella can strike both animals and their humans. Dogs may become infected simply by eating the supplement. People can pick up the bacteria by handling contaminated products or through contact with an infected pet’s waste. The danger climbs if hands are not thoroughly washed after touching the products, exposed surfaces or animal waste.

Infected pets may turn lethargic and develop diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Others show only a reduced appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Even pets that appear healthy can carry the bacteria and pass it to other animals or people.

Owners whose dogs have eaten any of the recalled supplements and display these signs should contact a veterinarian immediately.

In people, symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Though uncommon, salmonella may trigger more serious problems such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Anyone experiencing these after contact with the recalled products should seek medical care.
