Floki Inu a meme-based cryptocurrency — inspired by the other meme-based crypto Dogecoin — is planning to launch its own Metaverse in February 2022. The meme crypto developers said that the project is pushing ahead with a multinational marketing campaign.

The virtual world of Floki Inu will be an NFT gaming Metaverse that allows people to play-to-earn some unique NFTs (non-fungible tokens), a spokesperson for the Floki Inu project told Insider on Monday.

"Some of our utility products will launch this month, and our flagship PlayToEarn NFT gaming metaverse will have its first version out in February 2022," the spokesperson said.

The Metaverse is a term used for a 3-D virtual environment. In a Metaverse, people are able to work, play and socialize using avatars. As of this writing, there are hundreds of Metaverses that are gaining wide popularity across gamers. For instance, Axie Infinity, a play-to-earn NFT game is rewarding players with crypto assets. Meanwhile, virtual lands are being sold for millions of dollars in other Metaverses such as Decentraland.

Metaverse-related cryptos surged in an exponential way this year. Axie Infinity, Decentraland, The Sandbox, Enjin Coin and Gala surged 37,000% combined, according to data from Macro Hive. 

Floki Inu — which was created in August — is down 52% since a month ago, according to data from CoinGecko.

NFTs are a trillion-dollar opportunity

Popular investors like Ark Invest’s Cathie Wood and cryptocurrency giant Grayscale explained that the Metaverse could be a trillion-dollar opportunity. 

The Sandbox, currently the leading VR platform in NFT sales has sold $70.6 million worth of NFTs in the last seven days, according to NonFungible data. Decentraland comes in second place with a total of $6.6 million.

The Floki Inu project is relying on multinational marketing campaigns to reach a wider audience. As of this writing, Floki Inu has reached 15 countries including the United Kingdom, Dubai, and India via displays at airports. The project has also partnered with sports teams and companies including India’s Kerala Blasters and Germany’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen, to name a few.

"The marketing we do positions these utility products to be massively used and adopted when they launch ... due to the brand awareness we're creating for Floki right now," the Floki Inu spokesperson said, adding that those campaigns have been funded by a 3% marketing tax on every transaction.
