A chilling digital trail has emerged in the double murder case of two University of South Florida doctoral students, with prosecutors alleging the accused asked ChatGPT how to dispose of a human body in a dumpster just days before the victims were last seen alive.

The revelations come from a court filing that paints a disturbing timeline of alleged planning, digital searches, and physical evidence linking 26-year-old Hisham Abugharbieh to the deaths of Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy, both 27.

CHATGPT SEARCH SPARKS INVESTIGATION QUESTIONS

According to prosecutors, Abugharbieh used the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT on April 13 to ask about concealing a body.

"What happens if a human has a put in a black garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster,"

ChatGPT reportedly responded that the scenario sounded dangerous. Prosecutors say Abugharbieh then followed up with another message.

"How would they find out."

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The timing of the messages, just three days before Limon and Bristy were last seen alive, is now a key focus in the ongoing investigation.

ROOMMATE’S ACCOUNT AND DISTURBING DUMPSTER DISCOVERY

Investigators say a roommate of Abugharbieh reported seeing him move cardboard boxes from his room to a compactor dumpster at their apartment complex on April 17.

When authorities searched the dumpster, they discovered items belonging to Limon, including a student ID and credit cards.

DNA testing added another layer of evidence. A gray T-shirt found in the dumpster showed genetic material likely belonging to Limon. A kitchen mat tested separately matched Bristy’s DNA profile, according to prosecutors.

HOMICIDE FINDINGS AND BRIDGE SEARCH AREA

Sheriff’s investigators later discovered Limon’s remains inside a heavy-duty trash bag that smelled of decomposition.

His death was preliminarily ruled a homicide caused by “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to an autopsy cited in the filing.

Prosecutors also stated there is no evidence suggesting Bristy is alive and believe Abugharbieh disposed of her body.

Human remains were later discovered during the search for Bristy, though officials said they have not yet been identified.

Investigators also connected location data to a critical site in the case. On April 17, Abugharbieh reportedly traveled to an area near the Howard Frankland Bridge spanning Tampa Bay, where Limon’s body was later found.

EVIDENCE FROM APARTMENT AND PURCHASES UNDER SCRUTINY

Court filings allege Abugharbieh purchased trash bags, Lysol wipes, and Febreze on the night of April 16.

Investigators also reported finding blood inside his apartment and say Bristy’s pink cellphone cover was discarded.

Authorities further allege Abugharbieh claimed he gave both victims a ride to Clearwater the day they disappeared, but later changed his account after being confronted with digital location data.

INJURIES, SHIFTING STORIES, AND ARREST

When first approached by investigators, Abugharbieh reportedly had a cut on his left pinky and later was found to have additional lacerations on his legs.

He told investigators the finger injury happened while slicing onions.

He initially denied knowing the whereabouts of Limon and Bristy and said they had never been in his car, according to the filing. He later changed his story, claiming he dropped them off in Clearwater.

Abugharbieh was arrested Friday following a brief standoff at a residence.

He now faces charges including two counts of first-degree murder, battery, false imprisonment, failure to report a death, storing remains in unapproved conditions, and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond.

MISSING VICTIM SEARCH AND UNCERTAIN MOTIVE

Authorities continue searching for answers in Bristy’s death. Officials have not disclosed a motive in the case.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said human remains were discovered Sunday during the search for Bristy, but they have not yet been identified.

FAMILY STATEMENT AND UNIVERSITY RESPONSE

Family members told NBC News that Limon and Bristy, both from Bangladesh, previously dated.

In a joint statement, the families said their wish is that “the bodies of Zamil and Bristy be handled in accordance with Islamic rituals and funeral requirements.”

They also expressed hope that the university will establish a memorial in their names.

The University of South Florida said in a statement that it "is mourning the tragic loss of students Nahida Bristy and Zamil Limon," and added it is "committed to the safety and well-being of our students."

A court hearing in the case is scheduled for Tuesday as prosecutors continue building what they describe as a deeply troubling sequence of digital and physical evidence.
