In November 2021, the Republican Party enjoyed a major win after GOP candidate Glenn Youngkin won the Virginia gubernatorial election.

Youngkin's victory remains heralded by conservatives as the model for future GOP candidates to follow in upcoming elections. Youngkin managed to defeat Democrat candidate and former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe by focusing on issues that mattered to voters.

One of these issues was education. Youngkin ran a campaign on engaging parents and ensuring they have a place in the education of their children; meanwhile, McAuliffe arrogantly professed that parents don't have a right to dictate what teachers are passing along to their kids.

Due to the style of Youngkin's campaign, he won in a state that remained under leftist control for more than one decade. The Republican even managed to get votes from Virginians who backed Biden during the 2020 presidential election.

Earlier today, Glenn Youngkin was officially sworn in as the 74th governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

What to know about Governor Youngkin's inauguration

A hopeful and optimistic speech accompanied Youngkin's swearing-in as the 74th governor of Virginia. Youngkin spoke about the significance of freedom, education, and business-friendly economic policies.

Governor Youngkin delivered his speech outside of the Virginia State Capitol in Richmond. He also spoke to the heart and soul of the commonwealth, affirming that Virginia's spirit remains alive and well.

Youngkin furthermore noted that under his leadership, Virginia will become the best place in America for people to reside, hold jobs and businesses, and raise families.

The 74th governor additionally committed to being the governor for all residents of the commonwealth, including those who voted against him.

Along with Youngkin's swearing-in came the inaugurations of Virginia Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares.

The beginning of a red wave

Across social media, many conservatives expressed hope that today marked the beginning of a red wave that will sweep across the United States later this year.

In November, the nation has a series of midterm elections coming up. In addition to these midterms are gubernatorial elections in Florida, Texas, Michigan, South Dakota, and other states.

Republicans across the country are looking forward to GOP wins up and down every single election ballot.
