 Hannah Rapp, a rising professional boxer who earned a shot at the WBC women's featherweight championship earlier this year, has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas.

Fatal Crash Killed Hannah Rapp Still Under Investigation

According to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday to the 23000 block of FM 159 after reports of a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle.

Investigators identified the bicyclist as Hannah Rapp. First responders provided emergency medical treatment before she was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where she later died despite lifesaving efforts.

Authorities allege that the driver, identified as 31-year-old Charles Medina, passed two cyclists before stopping, reversing his vehicle and striking Rapp.

According to a probable cause statement cited by NBC News, Medina told investigators he believed the cyclists were attempting to flag him down. He said he braked suddenly, stopped, and did not see Rapp while reversing until moments before the collision.

Medina was arrested and charged with manslaughter and booked into the Brazos County Detention Center. Investigators have described the crash as an isolated incident while emphasizing that the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing evidence.

From Track and Field to Professional Boxing

Before entering the boxing ring, Rapp established herself as an accomplished collegiate athlete.

A native of Yorktown, Indiana, she competed in track and field at Purdue University, where she developed the speed, conditioning and competitive mindset that later translated successfully into boxing.

After relocating to College Station, Texas, she began pursuing professional boxing while simultaneously working as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M University.

Unlike many professional fighters who train full time, Rapp balanced demanding work responsibilities with daily training sessions, often preparing for fights before and after her regular work schedule.

She made her professional debut in 2024 and quickly established herself as one of the sport's fastest-rising prospects.
