Kelsey Mitchell made WNBA history Friday night, scoring 33 points as the Indiana Fever defeated the Toronto Tempo 103-85 and moved her season total to 1,034 points. Mitchell's total surpassed the previous WNBA single-season scoring record of 1,021 points set by Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson in 2024.

The milestone came during an expanded 44-game WNBA regular season, giving players more opportunities to accumulate statistics than they had under the league's previous 40-game schedule. The WNBA has announced that the regular season will expand again to 50 games beginning in 2027.

Kelsey Mitchell Sets a New WNBA Scoring Mark

Mitchell's performance against Toronto included seven 3-pointers and moved her past Wilson's previous single-season scoring record.

The Indiana guard has been one of the league's most productive scorers throughout the 2026 season. The Fever have relied heavily on Mitchell's ability to create shots from the perimeter and consistently produce points.

The achievement also comes during a season in which Mitchell has received significant recognition around the league. She was selected as a starter for the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game alongside Fever teammates Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.

The official Indiana Fever website provides current team news, schedules, statistics and player information.

Caitlin Clark Continues to Power the Fever

Mitchell's record-setting night was complemented by another strong performance from Caitlin Clark, who scored 28 points and contributed 14 assists against Toronto.

Clark's presence alongside Mitchell has given Indiana two high-volume offensive threats. The Fever have frequently benefited from Mitchell's perimeter scoring and Clark's ability to create opportunities for teammates.

Fans can follow Clark's statistics, career accomplishments and WNBA records through her official WNBA player profile. The WNBA profile lists Clark as the No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 WNBA Draft and notes her 2024 Rookie of the Year award, All-WNBA First Team selection and league-leading 337 assists during her rookie season.

The Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark news page also provides continuing coverage of Clark's games, awards and activities with the team.

Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell Form Important Fever Combination

The relationship between Clark and Mitchell has become an important factor in Indiana's 2026 season.

The Fever's official coverage has described Clark and Mitchell as two central components of the team's offense. Earlier in the season, the pair combined for 53 points in a victory over the Chicago Sky.

Their individual accomplishments have also placed both players among the league's statistical leaders.

Clark was selected as a 2026 WNBA All-Star starter for the third consecutive season, while Mitchell earned her first All-Star starting selection. The official WNBA announcement identified Clark as a three-time All-Star and Mitchell as a four-time All-Star.

Clark also earned Eastern Conference Player of the Month honors during the season after leading the conference in assists per game.

A'ja Wilson Remains Part of the Record Chase

Although Mitchell currently holds the single-season scoring record, Wilson remains within striking distance in the 2026 scoring race.

The original figures placed Wilson at 991 points, 43 behind Mitchell, with three regular-season games remaining for both players. Wilson has played fewer games, making points per game an important additional statistic when comparing their seasons.

The final outcome will depend on how both players perform during the closing games of the regular season. Mitchell can continue adding to her record, while Wilson has an opportunity to close the gap.

The comparison also illustrates the importance of distinguishing total points from scoring average when evaluating individual seasons.

WNBA Records Are Changing With the Schedule

Mitchell's achievement comes during a period of expansion for the WNBA.

The league's move from a 40-game regular season to 44 games has given players additional opportunities to accumulate points, assists and other statistics. The league has announced another increase to 50 games beginning in 2027.

That means some current single-season records could eventually be surpassed as players have more games in which to accumulate statistics.

The longer schedule does not alter Mitchell's official accomplishment. Her 1,034 points are the current WNBA single-season scoring total to beat under the league's 2026 schedule.

Mitchell's record gives Indiana another major statistical milestone during a season in which Clark, Mitchell and their Fever teammates have generated considerable attention. With games remaining, Mitchell can still add to her record before the 2026 regular season concludes.
