In a recent Q&A, Nicole Kidman opened up about how filming the steamy scenes in her upcoming erotic drama Babygirl felt "liberating." Kidman, 57, stars alongside The Iron Claw actor Harris Dickinson, 28. She mentioned that her comfort during filming was largely due to the care and direction of Halina Reijn, the film's female director.

Feeling Safe On Set

Working closely with Dickinson, Kidman revealed that trust played a huge role in making the scenes work. She said, "We would look at each other and go, 'Okay.'" Despite the intensity of the scenes, their professional bond and mutual understanding were important.

Kidman emphasized how Reijn ensured the actors’ comfort throughout the intimate scenes, explaining how this allowed her to feel free in her performance. She shared, "You go, okay, I'm just going to abandon everything and explore this with people I trust." With Reijn at the helm, Kidman felt confident that no scene would push her out of her . 

Dickinson admitted he sometimes felt nervous filming these scenes with the Hollywood icon. "Of course, there were days where I would go in really terrified of a scene," he said. But Reijn's direction ensured that both actors felt safe. "If the scene wasn’t working, we never felt time was more important than our comfort," Dickinson explained.

Babygirl Plot and Release Date

Babygirl, set to release in U.S. cinemas on Christmas Day, follows Romy (Kidman), a powerful CEO who risks her career and personal life after beginning an intense affair with her young intern, Samuel (Dickinson).

Kidman’s Attraction to the Role

Kidman explained that she was drawn to Babygirl because it allowed her to try something new in her acting career. "I've always been on a quest as an actor, and this was an area I’d never been," she explained. The role has already earned her critical acclaim, with the actress receiving the Best Actress award at the Venice Film Festival following the film’s premiere.

A Glimpse Into Romy's Life

The trailer shows the audience a bit of what’s cooking between Romy and Samuel, from their first encounter on the street to their passionate affair. In one scene, Samuel disrupts Romy's personal life by showing up at her house. As their affair progresses, she changes so much that her husband, played by Antonio Banderas, begins to notice, and he says to her, “You seem liberated.”
