Las Vegas police recently carried out a search warrant in Henderson, Nevada. It was part of their continued investigation into the cold case murder of iconic West Coast rapper Tupac Shakur. 

The search warrant is a significant development in a two-decades-long investigation. Shakur's murder has never been solved. 

Death of Tupac Shakur 

On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was riding in a BMW driven by rap producer Marion "Suge" Knight on the Las Vegas Strip when a white Cadillac pulled up alongside their vehicle. 

The occupants of the Cadillac opened fire, striking Shakur three times in the chest. He and Knight were rushed to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. And Shakur succumbed to his injuries six days later, on September 13. 

The case has remained unsolved, leaving Shakur's murder shrouded in mystery for over two decades.

Rap rivals

The 1990s rap scene was marked by a legendary rivalry that sometimes seemed like a friendly competition hyped by the media hype. But at its heart was a real-life gang conflict. 

This fierce rivalry revolved around the "East Coast" versus "West Coast" hip hop factions, with two prominent figures at the forefront: Christopher "Biggie Smalls" Wallace from New York and Tupac Shakur from Los Angeles. 

Through their music, both artists engaged in a series of "diss tracks," publicly attacking each other in a highly charged manner. Additionally, both had past criminal records and had served time in jail, which added to the intensity of their feud.

In late 1996, the rivalry took a tragic turn, extending beyond the realm of music and into the real world.

In separate events, both Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls were brutally murdered. Biggie Smalls was killed on March 9, 1997, just six months after Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas.

Their deaths left a profound impact on the hip-hop community and the music industry as a whole. 

But friends, family, and fans still hope for justice for the rap rivals' untimely deaths. 

Tupac’s Legacy 

Tupac Shakur, born Lesane Parish Crooks, left an indelible mark on the music industry during his brief but impactful career. 

He sold over 75 million records worldwide and received numerous accolades for his contributions to rap music. In 2017, the rapper was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by his friend and fellow West Coast rapper, Snoop Dogg. 

Known for his influential lyrics and powerful performances, Shakur received six Grammy nominations and achieved five No. 1 albums, including the diamond-certified "All Eyez on Me." 

His music has accumulated over 10.1 billion video and audio streams since his untimely death.

Tupac was also in 13 films, including his memorable role as Bishop in the 1992 movie "Juice."  He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
