Joe Rogan Podcast

Mark Zuckerberg made headlines Friday with a dramatic appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast. Over nearly three hours, the Meta CEO offered an unfiltered look at his thoughts on politics, technology, and the future of the digital and physical worlds.

He discussed a range of topics, including Meta’s moderation policies, diversity and inclusion shifts, and his grievances with the Biden administration.

Clashes with the Biden Administration

Zuckerberg didn’t hold back when discussing the Biden administration’s pressure on Meta to moderate content. He recounted how senior officials demanded the removal of specific posts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Zuckerberg, these interactions included aggressive phone calls where government officials would "scream and curse" at Meta’s team over posts they deemed problematic.

"They pushed us super hard to take down things that were honestly, were true," Zuckerberg told Rogan. "They basically pushed us and said, 'Anything that says vaccines might have side effects, you basically need to take down.' And I was just like, 'Well, we're not gonna do that.'"

One instance that stood out was a meme featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. The meme suggested a future scenario where class-action lawsuits might emerge related to COVID vaccines. The Biden administration reportedly pressured Meta to censor the meme, but Zuckerberg’s team refused.

"We just said, 'No, we're not gonna take down humor and satire,'" he explained.

Reflecting on the Pandemic

Zuckerberg shared his perspective on managing Meta during the pandemic, admitting he initially deferred to public health authorities.

“I was sympathetic to concerns about misinformation at the time,” he said. However, as the guidance evolved, it became challenging to discern accurate information from misinformation, a sentiment he noted many Americans shared.

Things escalated during the Biden administration’s vaccine rollout. The president even accused social media platforms of "killing people" by allowing misinformation to spread.

While Biden later clarified these remarks, stating that “Facebook isn’t killing people,” the damage had already been done. Zuckerberg said the president’s comments triggered intense government scrutiny, including “brutal” investigations into Meta.

The Trump Connection

Zuckerberg’s recent actions suggest a pivot toward aligning with the incoming Trump administration.

He highlighted Meta’s efforts to foster a better relationship with President-elect Donald Trump, noting a personal dinner at Mar-a-Lago in November.

Meta also made significant changes, such as dismantling its fact-checking program, easing restrictions on speech about social issues, and revamping diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. UFC President Dana White, a Trump ally, was also added to Meta’s board.

During the interview, Zuckerberg expressed optimism about Trump’s ability to leverage America’s technological strengths. "Our industry is a bright spot for the American economy," he said.

Future of Technology: One World

The conversation wasn’t all politics. Zuckerberg shared his vision for the future of technology, particularly how the digital and physical worlds are merging. He highlighted Meta’s work on neural interfaces and augmented reality (AR) glasses.

“It’s going to be a while before we’re really widely deploying anything that jacks into your brain,” Zuckerberg noted, emphasizing the potential of wrist-based neural interfaces as a precursor to more advanced technologies.

He envisioned a world where smart glasses and contact lenses could overlay the internet onto physical spaces. This technology could enable users to interact with virtual objects or holograms seamlessly.

“I think we’ll basically be in this wild world where most of the world will be physical, but there will be this increasing amount of virtual objects or people who are beaming in or hologramming into different things to interact in different ways,” he said.

Zuckerberg summarized his vision succinctly: “There isn’t a physical world and a digital world anymore. We’re in 2025. It’s one world.”

Media Reacts to Joe Rogan Podcast

The interview drew significant attention from both the public and the media.

Mike Isaac, a tech reporter for The New York Times, described the episode as “something to behold.” In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said, “Basically him [Zuckerberg] dumping years of anger at the media, the government, and social discussions. Clearly all pent up for years and now allowing himself to do it because of Trump coming to power.”

President-elect Trump praised Meta’s recent changes, telling Fox News Digital, “Honestly, I think they've come a long way — Meta, Facebook, I think they've come a long way.”

Mark Zuckerberg’s appearance on the Joe Rogan Podcast provided a rare glimpse into the tech mogul’s frustrations, ambitions, and vision for the future.

From clashes with the Biden administration to bold predictions about technology’s evolution, the interview showcased a side of Zuckerberg rarely seen in public.
