As Americans rally against shutdowns, there are some people and forces that are conspiring to silence dissent.

Earlier this week, the United States learned of grassroots and nonprofit organization Michigan United for Liberty's decision to sue Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The suit against the Michigan governor comes after an onslaught of civil liberties infringements and Whitmer's termination of government transparency laws.

Facebook Censorship Against Michigan United for Liberty

Unfortunately, the fight to restore liberties and freedoms has also caused Michigan United for Liberty to become a target.

On Wednesday, Facebook decided to remove the grassroots group's event, sharing details for a protest at the Michigan State Capitol on Thursday, April 30. Of course, the removal of this event from Facebook does not mean the event will no longer take place.

At no point has Michigan United for Liberty promoted violence or advised criminal activity. Posts on the grassroots organization's Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages simply call for the restoration of freedoms and liberties to Michiganders.

Gov. Whitmer is already facing multiple lawsuits; moreover, she's taken immense criticism for the extent of her stay home order. Clearly, the Michigan governor has lost the consent of the citizens she is expected to lead. To date, more than 311,000 people have signed a petition to impeach Whitmer and then throw her out of office; the petition can also be viewed and signed here.

Freedom of Speech

Facebook has indicated its decision to remove event pages for anti-shutdown groups and groups opposing shelter-in-place orders. This decision has prompted widespread criticism from the right-wing and other liberty-loving individuals. Furthermore, the assertion that such events promote "harmful misinformation" as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg claimed is dangerous.

Michigan United for Liberty is one of many groups that is rising in opposition to breaches of rights and liberties. The freedoms of Americans do not cease to exist in the face of a virus. Facebook may choose to remove certain event pages from its platform; however, such measures will not stop uprisings against lockdowns.

As of today, 26 million Americans are out of work. Governors across the nation are facing lawsuits due to their Executive Orders issuing lockdowns; Whitmer is not alone in that. Likewise, certain police officers have stated that they won't enforce mandates they deem as unconstitutional.

There are many Americans --- both Michiganders and non-Michiganders alike --- who stand with Michigan United for Liberty.
