After years of rumors and speculation it’s official, the spy who shagged our hearts Austin Powers is coming back to the big screen. On June 17th, actor Mike Myers confirmed the news during Trevor Noah’s livestream of his World Cup Watch party. During the stream a fan asked, “Are we ever going to see an Austin Powers 4?” To which Myers responded with a straight, “Yes.” There has been talk about an Austin Powers sequel for years and yet nothing has come to fruition, but this marks the first time that Mike Myers has given a definitive answer. In the past The Spy Who Shagged Me star has consistently stated that he can neither confirm nor deny. This should give fans a great deal of hope.

Believe it or not, it’s been 24 years since the comedy film series about a British spy from the 60s released a new film. The latest installment of the three film franchise came with 2002’s Austin Powers in Goldmember, which also starred pop icon Beyoncé. In that film we saw Austin Powers travel back in time to the 1970s to partner with a woman of his past, Foxxy Cleopatra (played by Beyoncé). The film also introduced Austin’s father, Nigel Powers, played by Oscar winning actor Michael Caine. The film also saw the return of familiar characters such as: Scott Evil (played by Seth Green), Mini-Me (played by Verne Troyer), Number Two (played by Robert Wagner),  Basil Exposition (played by Michael York) and Frau Farbissina (played by Mindy Sterling). In keeping with the other two films, it also included a lot of star power cameos. Some famous faces that popped up include: the late Ozzy Osbourne and family, Tom Cruise, Danny DeVito, Nathan Lane, Britney Spears, Gwyneth Paltrow, Quincy Jones and others.

Thus far, there is no confirmation on which actors will be returning to the franchise besides Mike Myers himself. While we don’t know exactly who will be back, we did see some of the stars reprise their roles for a commercial. That included actors Seth Green, Mindy Sterling and Rob Lowe for a Verizon ad. It was also directed by Jay Roach, who was at the helm for all three films. In the past Roach has stated he’d return for a sequel if Mike Myers was onboard as well. We know for certain that we will not see Verne Troyer reprise his role following his death in 2018. It is also not likely that Michael Caine will return due to his retirement from acting in 2023. Also, while actor Robert Wagner has not officially retired, he has not taken on a role outside of documentaries since guest-starring in an episode of NCIS in 2019.
