miramar apartment complex shooting

A late-night emergency call escalated into violence early Friday, turning a routine robbery report into a miramar apartment complex shooting that left a woman hospitalized and a man detained as investigators worked to reconstruct a rapidly unfolding scene.

Police say the incident began around 2:11 a.m. at a residential property in South Florida before being upgraded to a shooting once officers arrived on site.

Emergency Call Turns Into Active Crime Scene

Officers with the Miramar Police Department responded to a reported robbery at 10750 N Preserve Way apartment complex, located just south of Pembroke Road between Hiatus Road and Palm Avenue.

When police reached the scene, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to a hospital, though officials have not released her condition.

What initially sounded like a robbery call quickly transformed into a shooting investigation—like a situation flipping from alarm to crisis in seconds.

Two People Known to Each Other, Police Say

Investigators say only two people were involved in the incident, and both were inside the same apartment when the shooting occurred.

Police believe the individuals knew each other and described the relationship as casual. The man involved is believed to live at the apartment, and officials said the incident was contained entirely within that unit.

A male suspect has been detained, is being questioned, and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities also said he may be the shooter, though no formal charges have been announced.

One Shot Fired, Motive Still Unclear

Officials confirmed that only one gunshot was fired, but the circumstances that led to the escalation remain unclear.

Miramar police spokesperson Janice McIntosh said the timeline is still under review.

“Initially the call was a robbery and led to a shooting,” she said. “We’re not sure what happened in that short time, but we do know they were known to each other and there is no threat to the public.”

Investigators continue working to determine what triggered the sudden violence.

Crime Scene Locked Down as Investigation Expands

Large sections of the apartment complex were sealed off with police tape as crime scene units moved through the property. Investigators focused their attention deeper inside the complex, where most of the activity was concentrated.

Although the complex is not gated, access has been restricted while officers collect evidence. Surveillance footage, including Ring camera video, is being reviewed to help reconstruct the final moments before the shooting.

Residents React to Heavy Police Presence

As daylight broke, residents stepped outside to find a heavy police presence surrounding their homes, with some facing delays as they tried to leave for work.

Some neighbors described shock and unease at the scale of the response.

One resident said the situation was deeply concerning, especially in a quiet residential area. Another, Karina Barajas, said living next door to the incident was frightening, especially as a parent.

Roseanne Mitchell said she had never seen such activity at the complex before, calling the scene unsettling and unexpected.

Charges Still Undecided as Case Develops

Authorities have not confirmed any charges and have not publicly identified a suspect. Police say they are still determining whether the detained man will face legal action.

As investigators continue piecing together evidence, the miramar apartment complex shooting remains under active review, with officials working to understand how a private interaction inside an apartment escalated into gunfire.
