With coronavirus restrictions lifted across most of the nation, people remain more than eager to get back to traveling.

Last year saw the uptick of travel begin to re-emerge, especially during the holiday season. During this year alone, Spring Break has certainly led to more travelers getting out and about.

Unfortunately, the travel complications that arose during the Christmas 2021 holiday season appear to be making a comeback. With the start of April has arrived a series of flight delays and cancellations.

Needless to say, travelers don't care for this new turn of events.

A closer look at the latest travel delays

Towards the end of last week, a number of flights at the Orlando International Airport underwent delays and cancellations. This was due to inclement weather in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

Unfortunately, this was not the only cause of the latest flight cancellations and delays.

Southwest Airlines fell victim to problems with its backend technology, thereby leading to 1,000 flights being delayed with many others being cancelled.

Needless to say, travelers did not take kindly to this. Many travelers stuck at airports took to social media to blast Southwest Airlines for the amount of inconvenience caused by backed-up flights.

In the wake of backend technology problems, Southwest Airlines released a statement, apologizing to its customers. The airline company also announced that continuous updates would be provided to affected travelers.

The travel industry has unfortunately taken hits from the inflation wave sweeping the American economy.

Prices for both domestic and international flights are higher than they've been in previous times. The recent uptick in gas prices is also playing a role in what Americans are paying when they want to book commercial flights.

Back in March, multiple airlines wrote to various officials within the government; in the letter, they called for an end to the mandatory mask order for airline workers and air travelers.

By and large, the view of the airline industry is that COVID cases and hospitalizations have lowered to the point that makes mask mandates unnecessary.

This comes on top of the fact that mask mandates have been lifted in other environments, including those with less filtration than on airplanes.
