Authorities confirmed that at least one teenager was shot, dozens of people were arrested, and extensive property damage occurred as riot police struggled to restore order throughout Manhattan and other boroughs.

Celebration Becomes Violent New York Chaos

What started as a citywide celebration rapidly descended into disorder as massive crowds gathered throughout Midtown Manhattan, particularly around Times Square. Thousands of Knicks supporters celebrated into the early hours of Sunday morning, but the festivities were overshadowed by violent incidents.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), a 17-year-old boy was shot in the left foot near the intersection of 42nd Street and Broadway at approximately 2 a.m.

Because emergency medical crews were unable to reach the injured teenager due to the overwhelming crowds, NYPD officers transported him directly to Bellevue Hospital. Officials said he was listed in stable condition.

Witnesses described scenes of panic after gunfire rang out, causing large crowds to scatter for safety.

Property Damage Across Manhattan

Videos circulating on social media showed widespread destruction throughout Times Square and surrounding streets.

One of the most shocking incidents involved fans climbing onto a parked school bus, smashing its windows, ripping off exterior panels, and eventually setting part of the vehicle on fire while the driver reportedly pleaded for them to stop.

Several additional buses sustained significant damage during the celebrations.

Elsewhere, groups of revelers were seen vandalizing police vehicles, throwing bottles at officers, and damaging public property. Riot police wearing protective gear were deployed to disperse crowds and prevent further destruction.

By Sunday morning, sanitation crews had already begun an extensive cleanup operation to remove debris left behind throughout Midtown Manhattan.

Dozens Arrested During New York Chaos and Overnight Unrest

The NYPD reported that 63 people were arrested during the overnight celebrations as officers responded to multiple disturbances across the city.

Authorities also reported several additional violent incidents, including stabbings, slashings, and assaults, although investigators continue to determine whether every incident was directly connected to the championship celebrations.

Police officers themselves came under attack as bottles and other objects were thrown into the crowd, forcing some officers to take cover while attempting to maintain order.

Fatal Shooting Under Investigation

In Brooklyn, a separate fatal shooting occurred shortly after the Knicks secured the championship.

Police said officers responded to a 911 call outside 101 Lincoln Road near Prospect Park around 11:40 p.m. There they discovered Emanuel Spencer, 44, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the homicide was connected to the Knicks' championship celebrations, and no arrests have been announced in that case.

The Knicks' championship ended one of the longest title droughts in NBA history, sparking celebrations throughout New York and among basketball fans nationwide.
