Pantheon $6B Secondaries Fund

Private markets investor Pantheon has secured $6 billion in capital commitments for its latest private equity secondaries fund, setting a new fundraising record for the firm and reinforcing investor interest in the secondary market.

The company announced Wednesday that Pantheon Global Secondaries Fund VIII had reached its final close, making it the largest private equity fundraise in Pantheon’s history, according to a statement.

The fund is designed to give investors access to private equity opportunities that can otherwise be difficult to reach, particularly through general partners operating in the global middle market. Its strategy will encompass both limited partner-led and general partner-led transactions, drawing on Pantheon’s established industry relationships and private equity platform.

Pantheon $6B Secondaries Fund Targets Global Middle-Market Opportunities

Rather than relying on a single route into private equity, the new fund will pursue a combination of secondary transactions intended to build a diversified portfolio of buyout-focused investments.

According to Pantheon, the strategy will seek high-quality funds and companies at attractive valuations. Investments will be spread across different fund vintages, general partners and geographic markets, helping diversify exposure while targeting opportunities in the global middle market.

The approach also relies on the firm’s relationships with general partners, which can provide access to transactions that may not be widely available to other investors.

Amyn Hassanally, a Pantheon partner and global head of private equity secondaries, said the strategy builds on the firm’s longstanding role in the secondary market.

“Pantheon is recognized for its early leadership in secondaries, and our private equity secondaries strategy continues to be a compelling way for our investors to access high-quality private equity exposure with the diversification benefits the asset class provides,” Hassanally said.

He also pointed to the value of Pantheon’s industry connections and accumulated investment data in evaluating opportunities.

“The depth of our GP relationships and access to extensive data across private equity funds and companies amassed over decades enables us to have conviction and be disciplined about the assets we buy and the partners we back, particularly in the mid-market where access and selection matters most,” Hassanally added.

Existing Investors Back Fund as New Capital Arrives

The fundraising drew support from Pantheon’s existing investors and secured additional commitments from new investors in Asia and the Middle East, the company said.

The closing follows a substantial year of investment activity. During 2025, Pantheon deployed approximately $3.35 billion across 17 secondary transactions. The firm said that activity demonstrated its differentiated access to proprietary deal flow, alongside growing investor demand for secondaries as a portfolio management tool.

Secondary investments can offer investors a way to purchase interests in existing private equity funds or acquire stakes through transactions involving general partners. Such deals can provide alternative routes into private markets while helping investors manage portfolio exposure.

Pantheon’s latest fundraise arrives as the firm continues to expand its presence across private markets. The company manages approximately $84 billion in assets and invests across private equity, infrastructure and private credit.

With $6 billion committed to its eighth global secondaries fund, Pantheon has established a new fundraising milestone while positioning the vehicle to pursue opportunities across middle-market funds and companies worldwide.
