Peacemaker, a TV show spinoff from 2021’s The Suicide Squad, hit HBO Max in early 2022. The series stars John Cena as titular character Christopher Smith, a.k.a. Peacemaker.
In The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker acted as somewhat of a villain, as he was exposed to be working on behalf of Amanda Waller. At the end of the film, Peacemaker and Rick Flag came to physical blows over this, leading to the death of the latter.
Though Peacemaker as a spinoff focuses on humanizing Cena’s character, giving him an interesting backstory, and successfully making him more of an anti-hero than the villain we saw in 2021. The first season even kicked off with flashbacks of Flag’s death as Peacemaker expressed genuine remorse for killing him.
After debuting on HBO Max, Peacemaker became a favorite among viewers and received positive feedback from the masses.
The first season subsequently ended with Peacemaker and other Task Force X members valiantly stopping the alien invasion known as Project Butterfly. Throuhgout the series, Peacemaker fans also watched him bond with Emilia Harcourt, while develop friendships with Vigilante and Adebayo.
