Singer Ray LaMontagne collapsed on stage in Nashville during his ongoing “Trouble” 20th Anniversary Tour, turning a packed night at a storied venue into a sudden scramble for help.

Video captured by social media users shows the 53-year-old Grammy winner strumming his guitar and delivering his 2004 track “Jolene” at the historic Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 5 when he suddenly grunted, clutched the microphone stand and toppled backward. Crew members raced to his side as the music cut short.

Concert Halts Near the Finish

Instagram user Andrea Curtis, who shared footage from the show, said the performance stopped at the second-to-last song after LaMontagne went down—like a tightrope walker losing balance just steps from the platform’s end.

While LaMontagne’s representatives did not immediately answer a USA TODAY request for a health update, People and Consequence reported that the singer’s team posted a now-deleted Instagram story attributing the incident to dehydration.

“Thank you to everyone who came out to tonight’s show at the Ryman,” the team reportedly wrote. “Ray is in good hands with the local EMS and is being treated for heat related dehydration, he is doing well now and is grateful for everyone’s understanding.”

The message continued: “He is looking forward to being onstage in Louisville tomorrow night.”

Anniversary Tour Presses On

LaMontagne, who earned a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2011 with “God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise,” is on the road marking two decades since his 2004 debut album “Trouble.”

The tour opened Aug. 23 in Salt Lake City. Upcoming stops include Philadelphia, Detroit, Boston and Portland, with a final performance planned in New York City. He had already played two nights in Nashville on Sept. 4 and 5 before the collapse.
