Robreno Joins McCarter & English

McCarter & English LLP heralded the inclusion of a legal luminary to their ranks on Wednesday, revealing that the former U.S. District Judge Eduardo C. Robreno will now enhance their partnership. With over 30 years of serving the federal bench in Pennsylvania's Eastern District, Robreno's career has been as sprawling and intricate as the multidistrict litigation maze he has often navigated.

Robreno Joins McCarter & English : From Asbestos Claims to the Firm's Forefront

Renowned for his deft handling of a colossal load of asbestos claims - a litigation labyrinth involving hundreds of thousands - Robreno's decision to join the mediation and arbitration practice at McCarter & English is nothing short of a legal spectacle. His presence will oscillate between Philadelphia and Miami, a strategy set by the firm that further accentuates his importance in the ever-evolving legal arena.

Robreno Joins McCarter & English: ADR's Expanding Horizon

Former Judge Jose Linares, the firm's ADR chair, exclaimed, "As multidistrict litigation swells, becoming the tidal wave on the federal docket, Judge Robreno's unrivaled expertise becomes our lighthouse." The ADR's expansion, especially in south Florida, finds its cornerstone in Robreno's addition.

McCarter & English's managing partner, Joseph T. Boccassini, drew a vivid analogy, suggesting that Robreno's expertise is akin to an "alternative highway to the often-clogged traditional litigation route."

The Robreno Odyssey: From Havana to U.S. Federal Judge

Robreno's journey reads like a gripping tale. Uprooted from Havana in the wake of the 1959 Cuban Revolution, he was a part of the Operation Peter Pan, a secret mission that brought thousands of Cuban children to the U.S. His educational journey, spanning Westfield State College to Rutgers Law School, culminated in a role at the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division.

His voice, laden with pride in a 2014 interview, once said, "Representing the United States of America in court is both a metaphorical honor and a profound responsibility."

From Philadelphia's legal chambers in the 1980s to his confirmation as a federal judge in 1992, Robreno not only broke barriers but also set benchmarks, becoming the first Cuban American federal judge.

From Basketball to Browser Privacy: Robreno's Diverse Docket

Beyond the asbestos cases, Robreno has helmed high-voltage lawsuits, from Andrea Constand's civil case against Bill Cosby to a long-standing litigation against Google over internet privacy breaches.

Reflecting on his illustrious journey and anticipating his future, Judge Robreno expressed, "This transition allows me to continue weaving my professional tapestry across Pennsylvania and Florida, regions close to my heart."
