Selena Gomez is no stranger to headlines, but this one lands far from the red carpet. The pop star turned mental-health entrepreneur is now facing a federal fraud lawsuit that accuses her, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former business partner Daniella Pierson of misleading investors about the true state of their startup, Wondermind.

Gomez's legal team wasted no time pushing back. Attorney Mathew S. Rosengart delivered a pointed statement to Page Six, calling the allegations against his client baseless. He said Gomez did nothing resembling fraud or wrongdoing, and confirmed the defense plans to file a motion to dismiss the case outright, describing the claims as legally and factually unfounded.

The lawsuit itself comes from two investor entities, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind SPV LLC, who say they were sold a vision that never matched reality. According to the filing, the founders represented that Wondermind had the infrastructure, leadership, and resources to become a profitable, category-defining mental wellness platform. Investors say that promise fell apart behind closed doors.

Central to the complaint is Gomez's role. As the company's head of marketing, she was contractually expected to actively build the brand using her celebrity platform. The lawsuit claims she instead stepped back, leaving investors in the dark while the business, in their words, quietly unraveled around them. Court filings say the investors didn't learn the extent of the trouble internally — they found out through a media report, an April piece in The Cut that painted a picture of a startup without a clear roadmap, let alone a plan for the multibillion-dollar valuation it had pitched to backers.

The suit doesn't stop there. It alleges Wondermind was supposed to land major partnerships with JPMorgan and Fidelity to bring mental health services to their employees — deals investors say never came together. Promises of a dedicated app, celebrity-driven content, and advertising partnerships reportedly also failed to materialize, according to the filing.

Money is at the center of the dispute. The investor entities claim they funneled close to $1.2 million into Wondermind based on those representations. Adding to the financial picture, Forbes reported last year that the company was struggling to make payroll. A source close to Gomez told People that the actress kept personally investing even as the company hit trouble, noting she wasn't involved in daily operations but stayed financially committed. The source described Gomez as having poured millions into Wondermind over the years out of loyalty to her mother and a shared belief in the mission, including after being warned about the latest financial strain.

Neither Gomez nor Teefey has issued a public statement addressing the lawsuit directly. Pierson, the company's former co-CEO, did respond — telling The New York Times she categorically denies the allegations against her.

What happens next will likely hinge on the paper trail: internal communications, investor agreements, and whatever evidence surfaces about who knew what, and when. For now, Gomez's camp is signaling a fight, not a settlement, and the coming motion to dismiss will be the first real test of how much weight the investors' claims can carry in court.
