Over the last year there have been six Tesla Recalls. Many recalls can be handled via over-the-air software updates, but some require the automobile be physically fixed or upgraded by Tesla mechanics.

Tesla is addressing its most recent issues with Cybertruck battery packs through a large recall, according to reports from owner forums. Some owners have noted that their high-voltage batteries were replaced during routine maintenance, even when no issues had been reported.

Battery Replacement During Routine Maintenance

Owners of Cybertrucks manufactured between February and July have reported unexpected battery replacements during maintenance visits.

 “I brought the Cybertruck in for the first time since delivery in February (VIN sub2000) for the standard recalls and a few minor issues, and they’ve added this [battery replacement] to the list,” said owner Matt Albers on the Tesla Cybertruck Facebook page.

Another owner shared a similar experience on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, stating, “I submitted a service request to have [a side mirror] replaced. Within two minutes, Tesla approved the request, but the estimate included that they were also replacing the high-voltage battery.”

Tesla engineers have reportedly requested the return of affected battery packs for inspection. 

One owner explained, “They informed me that there’s technically nothing wrong with my batteries. However, Tesla engineering has requested that the battery pack be returned for a tear-down and inspection. Apparently, units produced around the same time as mine have been experiencing issues.”

Recent Tesla Recalls Highlight Ongoing Concerns

The battery pack replacements come amid a broader pattern of recalls for Tesla’s Cybertruck. Between November 2023 and November 2024, Tesla issued six recalls, addressing issues ranging from power-loss problems to faulty rearview cameras. 

While some recalls can be resolved through over-the-air software updates, others require physical repairs.

In October, a recall for delayed rearview camera images affected over 27,100 vehicles.

 Earlier in June, more than 11,600 Cybertrucks were recalled due to a failing front windshield wiper.

 In April, Tesla addressed an issue with stuck accelerator pedals, recalling nearly 4,000 vehicles. Additionally, some Cybertrucks were included in a February recall of 2.2 million Teslas due to small font sizes on warning light panels.

Looking Ahead

Tesla has yet to issue a public statement on the battery replacements or comment on how widespread the issue might be. As the company continues to refine the Cybertruck, its handling of these recalls underscores the challenges of launching a new vehicle model.
