This year, New York will be facing a large volume of high-profile court cases. From Wall Street collapsing, to cryptocurrency scams, to Former President's tax return, the courts will be booked this year. See below for a short list of the cases to keep your eye on this year.

Former Billionaire & FTX Founder/CEO Sam Bankman-Fried in Court for His Alleged Cryptocurrency Scam

Towards the end of 2022, the world became aware of a massive cryptocurrency collapse on the beloved exchange, FTX. Billions were lost, Sam Bankman-Fried was left standing in the rubble of his failed plan.

The criminal case is considered "one of the biggest financial frauds in history." Cole Schotz PC defense attorney, Michael Weinstein, is one of the lawyers representing the 30-year old scam artist. Cole says "Maybe he's (referring to Bankman-Fried) the Madoff for millennials."

Weinstein also said, "He's like Madoff because of the sheer numbers — and also the alleged fraud from the very beginning. Where is that money? Was it just phantom money? Just numbers on a ledger?"

The case is USA v. Bankman-Fried, case number 1:22-cr-00673, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Trump Faces Many Lawsuits, Here's One He Should Be Worried About

Former President and current Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has reportedly had a very difficult time in New York. One of the biggest threats to the disgraced former president, is a defamation and rape case that originally took place in the 1990s. E. Jean Carroll accuses Trump oof defaming her after he raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room. Her first suit was brought in 2020, and her second suit comes nuder the Adult Survivors Act.

Office of the Attorney General et al., case number 160721/2022, in New York County Supreme Court, People v. Bannon, case number IND-73554-22, in New York County Supreme Court; USA v. Buyer, case number 1:22-cr-00397, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York; Carroll v. Trump, case numbers 1:20-cv-07311 and 1:22-cv-10016, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
