Virginia School Shooting Charges Dismissed Against Former Assistant Principal in Newport News Case

The long-running legal fallout from the “Virginia School Shooting” that shocked the nation in 2023 took another dramatic turn this week after a judge dismissed criminal charges against a former assistant principal. She was accused of negligence in the case.
The ruling centers on the shooting at Richneck Elementary School, where first-grade teacher Abigail Zwerner was critically wounded after being shot by a 6-year-old student inside a classroom. According to reports, Judge Rebecca Robinson dismissed all eight felony child neglect charges against former assistant principal Ebony Parker on Thursday, bringing an end to the criminal case that had drawn national attention.More information about the case can be found through CNN, CBS News, and The Associated Press. Once the ruling was announced, Parker reportedly became emotional and broke down in tears inside the courtroom.The charges alleged Parker failed to act appropriately after several warnings that the child may have brought a firearm to school on Jan. 6, 2023.
