VisionQuest Brings Marvel’s Vision Trilogy to a Mind-Bending Conclusion on Disney+

VisionQuest is set to bring Marvel Television’s story of Vision to a new chapter when the series premieres exclusively on Disney+ on Oct. 14, 2026. Filmed at Pinewood Studios, the production reunites Paul Bettany as Vision and James Spader as Ultron for a story that continues the narrative established by WandaVision and Agatha All Along. According to Disney, the series concludes the trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024.

The series follows a rebooted Vision as he attempts to understand who he has become after escaping those who sought to weaponize him. His search for identity takes him into an unusual internal world populated by artificial-intelligence personas connected to his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S. and Ultron.

Vision Returns as White Vision

The new series picks up from the events of WandaVision, where Vision's original body was rebuilt and reactivated as White Vision.

Creative team members Terry Matalas and Christopher J. Byrne have described this version of Vision as more complicated than simply being a duplicate of the character seen in earlier Marvel Cinematic Universe productions.

Vision has access to memories from his previous existence, but his emotional connection to those memories has been disrupted. The distinction becomes central to the character's journey as he tries to determine what makes him Vision beyond the information stored inside his artificial mind.

The official synopsis describes Vision as living in hiding before a bounty on his head forces him to flee. During that journey, he encounters Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be connected to Vision as his reincarnated son.

That relationship introduces another major theme: fatherhood. Vision must simultaneously investigate Thomas's identity, confront his own nature and deal with the continuing influence of Ultron.

Two Worlds Inside VisionQuest

Matalas and Byrne have described VisionQuest as unfolding through two parallel environments.

One storyline takes place in the physical world, where Vision is attempting to remain hidden while dealing with the people pursuing him. The other takes place inside what the production calls Vision's “mind space.”

The mind space is presented as a house existing inside Vision's consciousness. It provides a theatrical representation of the way a quantum computer might process information while giving the series a visual setting for exploring grief, identity, memory and family.

The AI characters inhabiting that environment appear in human form. According to the creative team, Vision himself insists on giving these digital personalities human avatars because he is attempting to understand humanity.

The production also incorporated subtle imperfections into the mind-space environment. Details such as a banister that does not quite connect to the stairs are intended to suggest a world that is almost correct but contains small inconsistencies.

Ultron Returns to the Marvel Story

One of the most significant elements of VisionQuest is the return of James Spader as Ultron.

Spader previously provided the voice and performance for Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the new series, Ultron again becomes directly connected to Vision's story.

His presence also reconnects the series with the broader Stark technological legacy that helped create both Vision and Ultron.

The production has also introduced Paladin, a bounty hunter from Marvel Comics who has not previously appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paladin provides another threat for Vision as the character attempts to stay ahead of those pursuing him.

The official cast includes Paul Bettany, James Spader, Ruaridh Mollica, Todd Stashwick, T’Nia Miller, Lauren Morais, Orla Brady, Diane Morgan, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire and James D’Arcy.

Hair, Makeup and Prosthetics Help Define the Characters

The production's visual design extends beyond digital effects and sets.

Hair, makeup and prosthetics designer Frances “Fran” Hounsom worked on the changing appearances of Vision, Ultron and other characters. Her work included developing a custom paint mixture for Bettany's White Vision and recreating details associated with Vision's previous appearances.

The production also created a functioning mechanical component beneath a prosthetic arm that can illuminate on camera.

For Ultron, Hounsom worked with Spader's appearance, including his beard, which was grown and colored to transition from darker tones into silver and white.

The approach to Tommy and Billy also avoided simply reproducing the visual language of WandaVision. Instead, the production drew inspiration from the original Vision comics of the 1960s.

Costume Design Turns Code Into Clothing

Costume designer Sarah Young approached VisionQuest with the idea that clothing could visually represent artificial intelligence.

Vision's clothing is intentionally familiar while containing details that appear unusual on closer inspection. His suit is cut on the bias, while the apparent pinstripe design is actually lines of code created by the writers and printed onto the fabric.

Those lines can fade in and out, creating a subtle connection between Vision's clothing and his digital identity.

His tie and a hand-knit jumper incorporate elements of the classic android silhouette, while his shirt contains paneling intended to evoke the Mind Stone.

Because only two surviving White Vision suits from WandaVision remained and had deteriorated in storage, Young's team rebuilt the costume for the new production.

E.D.I.T.H., meanwhile, has an extensive wardrobe. Emily Hampshire portrays multiple versions of the AI persona, including characters such as a boxer, matador, priest, racer and field medic. The costumes use a consistent red, blue and yellow palette to connect the different personas.

Ultron's costume was developed with Spader and incorporates robotic design elements into the coat seams, buttons and belt buckle.

Paladin's clothing is deliberately less conspicuous, allowing the bounty hunter to blend into crowds. His wardrobe includes both tactical and less expensive street versions of his jacket.

A Trilogy That Began With WandaVision

VisionQuest occupies a significant place in Marvel Television's recent Disney+ storytelling because it completes a trilogy connected by characters and themes rather than functioning as an isolated series.

The story began with WandaVision, which examined Wanda Maximoff's grief and the nature of Vision's existence. Agatha All Along expanded that supernatural corner of the Marvel universe in 2024.

Now VisionQuest turns the focus back to Vision while introducing questions about artificial intelligence, memory, identity and family.

The official Disney material confirms that Vision already knows Wanda Maximoff is dead when the new story begins. That means the series does not simply recreate the emotional circumstances of WandaVision. Instead, it begins with Vision confronting what remains after the events that transformed him.

VisionQuest Arrives on Disney+ in October

Marvel Television has confirmed that VisionQuest will debut exclusively on Disney+ on Oct. 14, 2026. Marvel also showcased Paul Bettany and James Spader during D23 in August, offering audiences an early look at the production.

The series brings together elements from earlier MCU films, WandaVision, the original Vision comics and the supernatural and technological storytelling that has increasingly shaped Marvel's Disney+ productions.

For Vision, the central question is no longer simply whether he can survive. It is whether a being with memories, artificial intelligence and human-like emotions can determine what identity means after losing the emotional connections that once defined him.

With Ultron back in the story and Thomas Shepard potentially connected to Vision's family, VisionQuest is positioned to explore that question through both its physical world and the unusual mind space at the center of the series.
