New York City Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani is at the center of growing controversy after a new report accused him of normalizing antisemitic rhetoric and associating with figures tied to extremist causes.

The ISGAP report (Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy) warns that Mamdani’s rhetoric and alliances could “shatter the city’s fragile communal trust” if he wins re-election.

Allegations of Extremism and Antisemitic Rhetoric

According to the report, Mamdani has refused to condemn the slogan “Globalize the intifada,” a phrase long associated with violent uprisings and terrorist attacks against Jews and Israelis. The report notes that while Mamdani said he would “discourage” the use of the term, he declined to condemn it outright.

“He has repeatedly declined to condemn the slogan ‘globalize the intifada,’ ignoring the fact that the word ‘intifada’ is synonymous with terror attacks, suicide bombings, and incitement to kill Jews,” the report states.

The report also accuses Mamdani of downplaying the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre in Israel while labeling Israel’s military response “genocide.” It criticizes his past efforts to “punish New York charities that support Israel” through proposed legislation.

Controversial Associations and Political Firestorm

Mamdani sparked outrage last month after posting a photo with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a Brooklyn cleric who served as a character witness for Omar Abdel-Rahman, the terrorist behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Wahhaj has been a longtime defender of convicted terrorists and raised funds for their legal defenses.

Videos from as recently as 2024 show Mamdani advocating to defund the police while aligning with Wahhaj and other radical figures. According to the report, Mamdani’s campaign also accepted a $100,000 donation from a CAIR-linked super PAC, despite the Council on American-Islamic Relations being named an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-financing trial involving the Holy Land Foundation.

Jewish Leaders and Experts Respond

Hundreds of rabbis have publicly condemned Mamdani, signing a letter declaring that Jewish Americans “cannot remain silent” in the face of antisemitism and urging voters to reject him.

Dr. Charles Small, director of ISGAP, told Fox News Digital,

“The normalization of antisemitism and anti-democratic rhetoric is now mainstream. The radical left, the extreme right, and radical political Islam are attacking the democratic center.”

Small warned that Mamdani’s discourse could “inevitably lead to increased hate and violence,” emphasizing that “words and ideas lead to action.”

Despite the backlash, Mamdani remains ahead in polls and continues to draw strong support among young, progressive voters.

“Mamdani appears to be addressing the disenfranchised, especially the young,” Small added. “He gives fantastical policies that are appealing, yet will be impossible to deliver.”

ISGAP’s Warning and Broader Implications

The ISGAP report concludes that a Mamdani victory could erode Jewish safety and social unity in New York City—the largest Jewish community outside of Israel.

“Zohran Mamdani’s rise is not simply the story of an ambitious local politician riding a wave of discontent,” the report reads. “It is the story of how radical anti-Zionism has been repackaged as socialist, populist, progressive politics.”
