2024 GOP Primaries: Trump’s Resurgence Among College-Educated Voters

During Trump’s initial presidential campaign, blue-collar individuals quickly embraced him, forming a crucial part of the Republican coalition.

Over the years, this demographic’s influence has only grown, solidifying their status as a dependable backbone for Trump’s political endeavors.

Despite initial flirtations with other candidates, including Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, the majority of college-educated GOP voters have found their way back to Trump. DeSantis, in particular, actively courted this voting bloc and even led Trump in 2023 statewide surveys before formally entering the presidential race.

In recent developments, many of these college-educated voters have rejected criminal charges against Trump. They are questioning if there are political motivations in the prosecutions.

They have also been expressing dissatisfaction with DeSantis’ campaign. 

The competition

The New York Times reports that these voters view Trump as a stronger candidate, particularly appreciating his focus on domestic political issues.
