The November 13 slayings of 4 students at the University of Idaho were being meticulously worked on by the Moscow Police, the FBI, and the Idaho state police. And many of the facts of the case weren’t made public. But from the start, DNA and public video of a white Elantra linked to the murder.

A 28-year-old suspect, Bryan Kohberger, was arrested at his parent's home in Pennsylvania on Friday. And he was extradited to Idaho on Wednesday. On Thursday he had his first appearance in an Idaho courtroom where the Probable Cause Affidavit was publicly released. And the investigation revealed multiple areas where Kohberger was linked to the murders.

Kohberger, a Ph.D. student in Washington State's department of criminal justice and criminology, was living less than 10 miles from the murder scene in Moscow, Idaho.

The murders appear to take have taken place at 4 a.m. and 4:25 am., according to the court documents.

White Hyundai Elantra Linked to murders 

The Probable Cause filing described how Moscow police asked law enforcement to look out for a white Elantra, and on Nov. 29, a Washington State University police officer searched cars that matched that description at the university, and a car registered to Kohberger was found.

A review of surveillance video from the area on the night of the crime showed the suspect's white Hyundai Elantra. It was captured three times going by the victims' house.

Then later the video revealed entering the area for a fourth time at 4:04 a.m.

The murders appear to take have taken place at 4 a.m. and 4:25 am., according to the court documents.

Police were able to track the car's travel after the murders back to Pullman, Washington, where the suspect lived.

Kohberger registered his car in Washington state on November 18 five days after the murders. He received a new Washington license plate. The car was previously registered in Pennsylvania Kohberger’s home state.

DNA on the knife sheath

In another revelation, the court documents disclose that DNA from the suspect was recovered on a tan leather knife sheath left on Madison Mogen's bed.

Police recovered trash from Kohberger's parents' Pennsylvania home in December. And through Genealogy technology, it was linked back to the father of the suspect’s DNA.

A lab determined that the DNA from the trash was the father of the person who left DNA on the sheath of the missing knife.

A shoe print believed to be the suspect was also found outside one of the survivors' rooms.

Tracking Kohberger's phone

The suspect's phone shows it was near the victims' house at least 12 times in the months before the murders. Each of those times, with one exception, was late night or early morning.

Kohberger's phone was tracked from cell phone towers. It was shown heading to Moscow before the attack. And there was a video of the white Elantra returning to Pullman. 

On the night of the murders, the phone was off from 2:47 a.m. to 4:48 a.m. The documents claim that this "is consistent with Kohberger attempting to conceal his location during the quadruple homicide." 

The morning after the murders, he returned near to the murder house between 9:12 a.m. and 9:21 a.m. according to cellphone data.
