The latest polling shows growing concerns among Americans regarding President Joe Biden's age and mental fitness for the job. Some voters are also worried about former President Donald Trump's pending legal issues. The findings reveal that these concerns are overshadowing the potential 2024 election rematch between the top two political contenders.

Biden's Age Biggest Concern

The poll conducted by NBC News released Sunday indicates that three-fourths of American voters harbor concerns about President Joe Biden's age. At 80 years old, Biden's age and fitness have become a prominent issue for voters as the 2024 election season approaches. And it is a growing issue for all voters.

Interestingly, the poll also reveals that nearly two-thirds of voters share concerns about former President Donald Trump's ongoing legal troubles. 

This means that 74% of all voters are worried that Biden is too old for the job. And only 62% of all voters believe that Trump’s legal situation should keep him from being President.

Despite these concerns, both Biden and Trump remain the frontrunners for a potential rematch in the 2024 election. 

The poll shows that they are in a dead-heat, each with 46 percent support among registered voters. This suggests that their popularity remains intact despite the looming questions surrounding Biden’s age and Trump’s legal issues.

Trump gains ground

The survey also indicates that Trump has widened his lead over other potential Republican candidates in the primary field. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is trailing by a significant 43 points, making it increasingly unlikely for any other Republican candidate to secure the nomination.

In the context of the 2024 election, Biden holds only a one-point lead over Ron DeSantis, well within the poll's margin of error. Moreover, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is trailing Biden by just 5 points. Haley outperforms both Biden and Trump with independents and college-educated voters.

Notably, the poll reveals that a substantial portion of voters' choices in the 2024 election may be motivated by opposition to the other candidate.

 Among those planning to vote for Biden, 58 percent claim that their decision is more about voting against Trump than for Biden himself. Conversely, 57 percent of Trump supporters express a similar sentiment, indicating that their vote is driven by opposition to another term for President Biden.
