Firerose Claims She Was Kept a ‘Prisoner’ on Billy Ray Cyrus’ Farm

Firerose 3

Firerose is speaking publicly about her turbulent marriage to country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. She alleges that she was effectively held a “prisoner” on his Tennessee farm and subjected to a pattern of isolation. She characterizes the experience as domestic abuse.

The Australian singer says she was gradually prevented from freely leaving the property, seeing friends, attending church and pursuing her music career.

Cyrus has not publicly responded to the latest allegations through the Page Six report. A source close to the singer rejected Firerose’s characterization of the marriage, calling the allegations an attempt to damage Cyrus’ reputation. Court documents show that authorities were involved when Firerose was forced to leave

the marital home.

Who Is Firerose?

Firerose is the professional name of Johanna Rose Hodges, an Australian singer-songwriter who built a career in music after moving to the United States. Her professional identity is centered on pop, rock and country-influenced music, and she has collaborated musically with Billy Ray Cyrus.

Cyrus and Firerose first developed a friendship and musical relationship before becoming romantically involved. They began dating in 2022, became engaged later that year and married in October 2023. Cyrus filed for divorce in May 2024 after approximately seven months of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and alleged inappropriate marital conduct; he also sought an annulment based on alleged fraud.

The divorce was finalized in August 2024.

Firerose Describes a “Farm Prison”

In her latest interview, Firerose alleges that the restrictions within the marriage developed gradually.

She told Page Six that she did not have a car and said she was not permitted to freely meet friends for coffee, attend church or record music independently. She characterized the experience as a form of physical, strategic and emotional isolation and called the Tennessee property a “farm prison.”

Firerose also said that during the marriage she felt she had to ask Cyrus for permission to communicate with other people. She had previously made allegations of domestic abuse during the couple's divorce proceedings.

These remain allegations rather than established findings of fact. Cyrus' representatives and supporters have disputed her account.

Cyrus Also Made Allegations During the Divorce

The conflict was not one-sided. During the divorce proceedings, Cyrus accused Firerose of attempting to isolate him from his own family.

According to the supplied report, Cyrus alleged that Firerose interfered with his electronic devices and blocked at least one of his daughters from communicating with him. His longtime manager, Scott Adkins, also alleged that Firerose became combative over a proposed performance opportunity involving Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and “Old Town Road.”

Firerose disputes the broader narrative surrounding the marriage and says she has been the target of what she describes as an aggressive smear campaign.

The competing allegations became part of an unusually public divorce involving two entertainers whose relationship had initially been presented as a musical and romantic partnership.

Billy Ray Cyrus and His Connection to Miley Cyrus

Billy Ray Cyrus is a longtime country music performer best known for the 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” He also became widely known to a younger generation through Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, in which he played Robby Ray Stewart, the father of Miley Cyrus' character.

Billy Ray and his former wife Tish Cyrus were married for nearly three decades before divorcing. They have six children, including Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus and Brandi Cyrus.

The Firerose marriage also became intertwined with public discussion about Billy Ray's relationship with his children, particularly Miley. Firerose denies that she was responsible for a family rift.

Miley has subsequently spoken publicly about repairing her relationship with her father. She has described family as a priority and said their relationship has benefited from spending time together in recording studios.

Who Is Billy Ray Cyrus Dating Now?

Billy Ray Cyrus is currently in a relationship with actress Elizabeth Hurley. Cyrus and Hurley first met while working on the 2022 film Christmas in Paradise, but their romantic relationship became public in 2025 after they reconnected.

Hurley and Cyrus have since appeared together publicly, including at the Stagecoach Music Festival, where they attended with members of Cyrus' family. Hurley has also spoken positively about their time together.

The relationship places Cyrus in a very different public chapter from his brief marriage to Firerose.

New Music and a New Chapter for Firerose

Firerose is also attempting to move forward professionally. Her new song “Phoenix” explores themes connected to her experiences during and after the relationship.

The music video was directed by Chris Applebaum, who also directed Miley Cyrus' 2009 “Party in the U.S.A.” video. According to the supplied report, Applebaum contacted Firerose after seeing her music on Instagram.

Now living in Los Angeles, Firerose says she has reconnected with old friends and developed new friendships. She has also spoken about wanting to use her experience to support people who feel they have lost their voice in difficult relationships.
