Jeff Bezos has started off the new year with quite a bit of wheeling and dealing. Just today, Amazon announced that they were acquiring the unique Wi-Fi router company Eero. As of print, the terms of this deal have not been closed, but experts expect that Bezos’ paid a large sum.

Eero is a router company which works to ensure that your wireless signal stays consistently strong throughout every room of your house. As a result, they have pioneered a technology which will mesh Wi-Fi routers together, essentially blanketing your house in a strong wireless signal. This technology is proprietary to Eero, and Bezos coveted adding it into his arsenal of products aimed at improving domestic life.

The acquisition of Eero is Amazon’s latest smart-home product that they will add with their other companies including Blink and Ring. Experts believe that this purchase will be conducive to Amazon continuing their dominance in the home-security market as well as releasing new, innovative lines of products.

Amazon has compared their purchases of these companies as working to control the electronic “plumbing” of various houses, and Eero is the perfect next step in this direction. Whether it is further connecting doorbell cameras and smart speakers, Eero will enable Amazon’s products to function more swiftly.

In fact, Eero, the five-year-old company, was one of the first businesses to introduce mesh networking into the world. Their products are proven to significantly boost Wi-Fi signal over thousands of square feet which may allow Eero to be implemented into some of Amazon’s brick-and-mortar stores.

Dave Limp, senior vice president of Amazon devices and services, discussed this deal, claiming, “We are incredibly impressed with the Eero team and how they invented a Wi-Fi solution that makes connected devices work... We have a shared vision that the smart home experience can get even easier, and we’re committed to continue innovating on behalf of customers.”

Although Eero has faced competition in this field for many years, Amazon’s acquisition insinuates that they will soon edge out any other competitors. Experts are excited to see how Amazon continues to innovate, especially after this purchase.

In today’s market, it seems as if anything Amazon touches turns into gold. Overall, it will be interesting to watch what happens as Amazon begins to implement this technology into their wide lines of products.
