BP Dominates Bid Count; Joint Venture Trails Close Behind

A joint venture of Woodside Energy Deepwater and Repsol locked in the day’s second- and third-largest bids—$15.2 million and $12.2 million—for tracts in the Walker Ridge region, a well-known frontier for deep-water wildcatting.

BP submitted the most high bids overall, posting 51 winning bids totaling $61.9 million. Chevron followed with 24 high bids at $53.1 million.

A Competitive Surge Across the Gulf

In all, 30 companies submitted 219 bids worth a combined $371.9 million, signaling that despite lawsuits, shifting policies and market volatility, the Gulf of Mexico remains an arena where energy giants show up ready to compete—checkbooks in hand.
