Political Crossfire and Public Scrutiny

In an interview with the BBC in Berlin last week, Hillary Clinton characterized the deposition as a Republican maneuver aimed at deflecting scrutiny from questions surrounding Donald Trump and his past association with Epstein.

“We have nothing to hide,” she said. “We have called for the full release of these files repeatedly. We think sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

She maintained she never met Epstein but acknowledged encountering his convicted associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, on several occasions. Maxwell attended the 2010 wedding of the Clintons’ daughter, Chelsea Clinton, in New York.

The Clintons had previously accused House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer of engaging in “partisan politics,” calling the legal summonses a ploy to embarrass political rivals at the direction of Trump. They argued they had already submitted sworn statements detailing the “limited information” they possessed about Epstein.

Still, a spokesperson for Bill Clinton said they would appear and “look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.”

Comer described the push for depositions as bipartisan, insisting it demonstrates that “no-one is above the law.”
