Cyberpunk 2077, a new videogame featuring Keanu Reeves, is finally here

Cybercriminals are looking to make money out of the hype

With its huge demand, however, cybercriminals are searching for ways to cash in on the excitement, with the game being used as a lure for cyberattacks.

Scams that offer “free copies” while stealing personal information are all over the internet, according to researchers at Kaspersky, a multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider.

Kaspersky said several websites are offering free purported downloads for the game.

“If the visitor clicks the [download] button, the site downloads an executable file that appears to be an installer to the computer,” Kaspersky researchers said on Monday. “Opening it, the user sees a menu with some inactive buttons, creating the illusion that, once installed, the app can be used to run and configure the game.”
