Environmental groups, including Earthworks, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Environmental Defense Fund, supported the EPA’s tailored approach for marginal wells in their brief filed Tuesday, highlighting the significant pollution from these wells.

Reactions to the Decision

Rosalie Winn, the Environmental Defense Fund’s lead counsel for methane and clean air policy, stated that the decision “ensures that the safeguards will begin to deliver benefits to communities long overburdened by oil and gas pollution.” Conversely, a spokesperson for the Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General expressed disappointment and indicated that further action was being considered.
